“She’s awake.”

“Thanks, Yasmine! I’ll be right there!”

This case could be the one that breaks the career of Officer Aubrey Copeland of the 22nd Precinct open. Tired of the endless traffic tickets and mindless jaywalking violations, her luck has finally turned recently. Suddenly, she was always in the right places at the right times. Her fellow officers didn’t understand. She is greatly admired by a talented medic named Yasmine Veracruz, who is always the first person Aubrey calls when medical aid is needed at a scene. Yasmine has just let Aubrey know that her patient, recently discovered unconscious hanging by her wrists in a remote bunker (The Media Strikes Back - Epilogue ), is awake. The patient’s breasts had been savagely beaten, and she was unable to communicate at the scene. Aubrey was ready to get some answers.

Yasmine meets her outside the hospital room.

“Aubrey, I think you are going to have a hard time with this one. She claims to not know who kidnapped and beat her.”

With a subtle nod of confirmation, Aubrey enters the room. The patient lays uncovered on the hospital bed in a standard issue flower gown. She eyes Aubrey with suspicion. Aubrey removes her cap and places it gently onto the bed. She pulls her phone out to take notes.

“Hello. I’m Officer Copeland with the 22nd. You can call me Aubrey.”

“Hi.”

“As I’m sure you are now aware, Miss Veracruz and I found you unconscious in a bunker in the woods, suspended from the ceiling by your wrists. And your breasts…”

“I’m aware. I can feel them.”

“Understood. Can you please state your name and tell me what happened to you?”

“Ugh. I already told Miss Pink Puff here that I don’t know what happened.”

“Charming. Well, could we at least start with your name? And then I want to hear anything that you DO happen to know.”

“Fine. My name is Alexandra Pride. I go by Alexa. I’m a professional blogger. I was walking down the street when I was ambushed by two men…at least I think they were men. They had masks on. They blindfolded me and took me to that place, strung me up, and beat my breasts. Then I woke up here in terrible pain. The end.”

“We didn’t find a blindfold at the site. The perpetrators took it with them?”

“I dunno. I guess so. Who cares?”

“Mmm hmm. Can you tell us anything about the soggy newspaper that we found? Or the random stocking? Not something two male perps would have.”

“Yeah, I dunno. The newspaper was in my mouth. In fact, I can still taste the ink.”

“Are you sure that there is nothing else that you can tell us?”

“Can you come closer? I’d like to whisper something to you.”

“Umm…okay.”

Aubrey cautiously approaches Alexa who whispers in her ear, “You’d better find the people that did this to me before I do.” Alexa slyly takes Aubrey’s handcuffs from her belt and hides them underneath her.

“Okay. That’ll be all. Yasmine, I have one other thing to discuss with you.”

Aubrey and Yasmine leave Alexa to get some rest. Outside the hospital room door:

“Be careful with this one. She’s lying.”
