Description This started out as a reference sheet for me if and when I use any of these guys in a comic. I wanted to have a definitive chart of all the film and TV Phantom actors' heights. It seems to have morphed into a police lineup of sorts instead. Go figure.

Here's a list of everyone's heights, just so this retains some of it's original intent.

The Phantom of the Salle aka ME- 5'1 1/2'' (because half inches count too )
Lon Chaney-5'9''
Claude Rains-5'6 1/2''
Herbert Lom-5'9 1/4''
William Finley-6'4''
Maximillian Schell-5'10''
Robert Englund-5'10''
Charles Dance-6'3''
Julian Sands-5'11''
Gerard Butler-6'2''
Michael Crawford-5'10 1/2'' (Why is MC in this chart when he was never in a film, you ask. I answer with another question: why not?)

These numbers are taken from IMDb, except for Salle. (I hope I know what my own height is...) Shoes and heeled boots *cough*LonandRobert*cough* were not included in the chart. I drew them all as if they were barefoot.

EDIT: This was made well before the Royal Albert Hall performances, so please stop asking why Ramin is not in here. RAH isn't a film anyway, people.

I love charles dance I also thought the schell one was very good. Paradise is a classic oh, and if you count the sands version you have to include the Erik from Phantom of the Mall: erik's revenge D D best stupid 80's horror , movie EVER! with such wonderful theme songs including the lines: "Is there a Phantom of Mall?" Folks are bound to ask! "Is He the Phantom of them all, or just some Retard in a broken Hockey Mask!", Don't get me wrong, it's aweful. but SO good in it's badness XD

I've heard about the Mall one, but I haven't found it for really, really cheap. (I got the Sands one for two bucks.) If I ever do see it I'll probably add that actor in.

You can get it on amazon for 3.99 (and that's not used )

Oh, you could do an extended version with some of the plays on dvd, like the David staller version, or the takarazuka one.

Sorry, this was just such a good idea.

^^ This was just for the movies. I didn't do plays since they usually have multiple actors. Mikey's on there just because.

I think I haven't seen the... Oh wait, yes I did.

It's the julian Sands one I've been told not to watch. Should I?

Awesome work! I favored the 1990 and 1974 version most. Although they've all had something better than the other, in their own little way.

Well... if you can get over the gross departures from cannon Phantom, it's sorta watchable albeit slow in parts. I watched it just so I could say I gave it a chance; it is a Phantom movie after all.

Awesomeness. Gerard is my fav, followed by Charles Dance, and the rest you can put in whichever order you like behind those two. I'm not a huge MC fan, but I can tolerate him simply because he was the first to play the ALW role.

It's about the same for me with MC. I like him as a singer, but others have totally owned with Phantom. Peter Karrie FTW!

My all-time favorite Phantom movie is the 1990 version with Charles Dance.
Dance was absolutley amazing.
Teri Polo is my favorite Christine as well, because she realized what she did to Erik and tried to mend their relationship.

And Michael Crawford's full of epic win-ness, of course.
^_______^

OMG, they are SO much taller than me.

Wait, how tall are you, SilverDrgnbane?

Awesome! And... now I, too, have a handy reference for their heights. Finley is, indeed tall. I always think Sands is taller than he is, though.

This is cute.

Glad to help. Yes, Sands does seem tall in the film. Maybe he's wearing boots too.

Oh, our beloved Michael Crawford. He was the best Erik ever. Gerard Butler was the best Erik in a movie, though.

A TV miniseries from 1990 based upon Arthur Kopit's play, Phantom. It may not be very cannon, and all the actors are dubbed, but Charles Dance's portrayal of Erik is nothing short of magnificent. If you want to watch it, someone posted the whole thing on YouTube in 24 parts. [link]

Ok, you got me curious and that is a very bad thing so I went poking arond and tried to find some of these. I love amazon.com. I found "The Phantom of the Paradise" and the Julian Sands version - which I procured and watched earlier today. Damn! Damn damn damn! What was that? It was unbelievable and I think - out of the ones I've seen - it will become my favorite. In my opinion he's the easiest to sympathize with and the ending..... holy ******* shit!!!!!

SilverDrgnbane In reply to VampPrincessNicolett [2008-06-18 21:02:57 +0000 UTC]

Waaait... Are you saying you actually like the Julian Sands movie? If so, you have to be the first phan to ever admit that. Most people hate it with a purple passion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VampPrincessNicolett In reply to SilverDrgnbane [2008-06-18 21:06:36 +0000 UTC]

Really? Seriously? But then again I am a vampire addict. My two greatest passions are "Phantom" and vampires. So I've grown to love creepy messed up horror movies with sexual undertones. I'm just a little weird like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilverDrgnbane In reply to VampPrincessNicolett [2008-06-19 05:19:06 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that makes sense. For all his un-fugliness, Sands does make up for it in pseudo-vampiric creepiness. Most phans hate/ shun this film because it gets so far away from the original story in bad ways. The most obvious is the lack of a deformity. What is Phantom without his mask? Just some creepy stalker with a swishy cape and OCD.

.......I need to watch these films! Even if I have to gouge my eyes out after.
