Description **Might take a moment to load...it's HUGE!**

Ok! I actually remembered to take screenshots of something, huzzah! So here's the first installment of my start-to-finish walkthrough of the "Stride For Stride" picture seen here: [link]

The pics are 75% their regular size, but I think they're still pretty sharp. I thought I'd save you all the horror of loading something that big, even though this pup is STILL friggin enormous. O_O Sorry if it gives anyone any trouble.

I forgot to mention in the image, but for the lineart I'm using "oils" and specifically the "detail oils brush 10" sized down to 1.5, in Corel Painter 8. Silly me not mentioning the most obvious things, haha.

Anyway, I'll upload the next part soon.

Oh, and sorry if there are any typos. I read it three times over, but I probably missed something anyway.

Tablets are pretty awesome. You CAN do most of this with a mouse, though, it just takes a lot longer o.o

Wowowwwowowowoow...

This'll help me so much, I havn't got a good art program since you know I was using free trials and all so I looked up your program and now i'm saving up to buy it and with this tutorial, it'll really help me.

I love you so much!

Yay! I'm glad it's helping! I'm not sure about prices but you might wanna save up for Photoshop instead...seems like everyone else uses photoshop, I'm just the weirdo over here with my Painter 8. haha.

Hehe you're just like my, I make insane amounts of layers XD

Anyway, I have the feeling this will be an extremely useful tutorial, I can't wait to see how you color!
I feel such a crappy artist when I read this because I never draw circles or shapes, I just immediately start drawing the horse. That's why 75% of my sketched are crap anyway! I must try to draw the way you do.

Ooh and I must really go buy a wacom!

Thanks for sharing this liz!

Aw, don't you dare feel bad about anything! You are the wiz-kid! Your style is amazing and you clearly get on very well with whatever you've been doing. haha. I'mma glad you like how this is going, though! If even one person finds it helpful I'll die happy. XD

Heh well maybe, I just think I can do better then how I usually draw, I just want art to be finished quickly and I just know that if I would take the time my drawings would be a lot more detailed >.<

Oh how I understand!! I think we've discussed before how I also hate how long it takes to make a pic. There are some crazily good artists on dA who can do in three hours what takes me ten or twelve! Insanity....

nice tutorial. what are the settings for the lineart brush that you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverglass19 In reply to Arcane-Water [2007-07-15 13:41:20 +0000 UTC]

Ah, see this is why I suck at tutorials...I forget to mention stuff...It's the oils detail brush, sized 1.5, in Corel Painter 8. I'll go add that info to the comments. Thanks for mentioning it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arcane-Water In reply to silverglass19 [2007-07-16 03:28:17 +0000 UTC]

no problem, and oh darn.. I use Photoshop 7 D: do you know what would be the equivalent of an oil brush on ps? It's ok if you don't know, I'll probably go fiddle around with brush settings for a while. Thanks anyways

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverglass19 In reply to Arcane-Water [2007-07-16 03:36:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm preeeeeetty sure most people use the "airbrush" tool to smudge the colors around at a low opacity. I'm not 100% certain though. Poor me and my complete non-knowledge of Photoshop!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arcane-Water In reply to silverglass19 [2007-07-16 04:03:01 +0000 UTC]

wait, smudge? Your lineart looks really clean to me. I've been trying to go for that for .. quite a while, but I'm suffering from fuzzy outlines. ...or maybe yours looked fuzzy at a higher resolution but looked better when it shrunk.. dammit, then I have to learn how to draw big.. noooo~ I always work on small canvasses, my lines start getting ridiculously squiggly and patchy when I draw big. <_<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverglass19 In reply to Arcane-Water [2007-07-16 04:37:37 +0000 UTC]

OH how I know what you mean! I hate drawing big for that very reason! And I'm sorry if I confused you, I was talking about smudging the colors for the background or something. I think photoshop people use the "ink" tool for lineart. Again, though, I'm not really sure... *isn't helpful at all* o.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arcane-Water In reply to silverglass19 [2007-07-16 11:47:39 +0000 UTC]

yeah I kind of thought that, seeing as you have another tutorial on backgrounds.

Isn't ink like, paths and vectors? The lines from vectors come out really clean but it's a lot harder to do (and more time consuming) although it would help a LOT with large strokes.

Do you have photoshop? xD;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverglass19 In reply to Arcane-Water [2007-07-16 12:34:29 +0000 UTC]

O_O I...thiiiiink that's what ink is? I actually don't know. No, I don't have photoshop. Hence my complete lack of helpfullness. haha.
