Description Established by Isabelle Devon following the First Death Star's destruction, Goldsaber Squadron served as a burning spear that would plunge itself into the heart of battle, we were certainly a varied bunch, coming from all walks of life... Our founder and first squad leader was an Alderaanian native motivated by grief, she was Isabelle, my former commander, following her was a Jedi raised in an orphanage, that would be me by the way, after Isabelle's death I assumed the position of command... Also flying with us was Jaeriel, a young Mandalorian-Jedi girl, and later my adopted Chiss daughter Orchid joined us too. There was also Nox, an Imperial deserter who spent her early Rebellion years battling Glitterstim and Deathstick addiction, traumatized by her crimes in Imperial service and fighting for redemption... We had former bountyhunters like Ashna, ex-vigilantes like Zomori, career criminals who'd crossed the Empire few too many times, like Saki, wannabe Sling-Racers like Victor, and honest to god servicemen like Dunstan... Looking back, we were quite the collection of oddities!
~Quinn Shara, Extract from one of her published works, "Goldsaber: The Rebellion's Spear" retelling the story of Goldsaber Squadron, from it's initial establishment, to the year 24ABY (date of writing), co-authored by surviving Goldsaber Squardmates, and dedicated to those who'd been lost, most notably it's founder and her family.

Yet more Star Wars AU stuff! Just a few sketched this time though, for Imperial ships captured by the Rebellion/New Republic and given that Goldsaber flair! Also a design for the Goldsaber insignia, a gold, elongated Starbird with extra wings, reminiscent of an X-Wing.

I like the idea of Goldsaber being a truly ragtag bunch, using all kinds of fighters, including liberated Imperial craft, of course employing Imperial craft presents problems as there's the risk of friendly fire, as such Goldsaber pilots paint their ships in an audacious, eye-catching manner, meaning their squadmates and fellow Rebellion/New Republic pilots can easily identify them. This bold display also makes for an eye catching target for any Imperial pilot, as such Goldsaber pilots often deploy as diversionary units alongside other squadrons that employ more vanilla paint jobs, Goldsabers stand out from the crowd!

During the early years of the New Republic I imagine they operate from a captured Star Destroyer, emblazoned with a huge insignia as a bold statement against the Empire's remnants. XD

Anyhow, I hope ya'll like this insight into Goldsaber's inner workings and methodology, I had a lot of fun with it.
EDIT: OH GOOD GRIEF, I SPELLED REPUBLIC AND REBEL WITH d's INSTEAD OF b's, I'VE NEVER FELT SO COLOSSALLY STUPID.
This was drawn at 5AM, BUT STILL.

Heh, oh dear lord, the Gold Sabers have a star destroyer?

Good grief!

Heh, but then again to be fair, the Republic did start using those things in good numbers once they got underway!

Very cool designs though, I love the Gold Saber emblem.

Hahah, I wonder who's bright idea that was, giving those guys a ship like that! XD

Aye, and that's when I imagine they get this one, throughout the days of the Rebellion I imagine Goldsaber never had a permanent base of operations, they'd travel where needed and assist their fellow squadrons... By the time of the New Republic, when they'd captured a fair few Star Destroyers, Quinn put in a requisition order for one to serve as a permanent mobile command center for Goldsaber squadron (and of course a permanent home for her squadmates), whilst it was met with some skepticism weather or not assigning a Star Destroyer to Goldsaber was an effective use of resources (some considering them merely a support squadron) several other squadron leaders, knowing their skill and dedication, lobbied on their behalf, support including the likes of Wedge Antilles of Rogue Squadron, and thus they where finally granted their request. (I imagine the Goldsabers threw quite a party to celebrate, inviting those who supported them along too XD)

Thanks man, I'm glad you like! ^_^ Heheh, if nothing else it serves as a deterrent to any Imperial Remnant forces that might want to recapture the Star Destroyer, I wouldn't envy the guy who's gotta remove that paint... XD Pfft-- I agonized for ages trying to come up with a design, making all kinds of stupid crap, then I just figured, Rebel Insignia + X-Wing with unfolded S-foils + Gold paint = Thanks brain for taking days to come up with that simple equation! XD

I don't suppose you can make a picture based only on your rebel symbol and what you come up with the idea for this very retro somehow

Well to be fair, Quinn gets an even nastier ship later on (though a part of me wondres if it is a stripped down version like with the Errant Venture)!

I like your logic, but a full on ISD seems a bit excessive for a squadron which I assume was at most around a dozen people. I mean an ISD carries six full squadrons of twelve each plus a garrison base and troops! That's a lot of extra room for one squadron of commando pilots!

*laugh* yeah, I can just imagine that 'fuck it, they can keep the damned thing, we're not repainting it.'

The design itself is really cool though, great job on that. I used to design that sort of thing all the time.

Heheh Indeed she does, though of course when that happens not a lot of folks are fans of the idea on an independent SSD roaming around, combined with her loosened ties to the Jedi Order she finds herself in an isolated position, however that's pretty much what Quinn wants at that point, exhausted from the Yuuzhan Vong war and with the New Republic gone she chooses to pursue a position of neutrality, I thinks she's tired of taking orders too... XD

Yeah, though the reasoning behind them getting an ISD over a Victory is to do with Goldsaber's (or more accurately Quinn's personal) involvement in fighting Nightmare Squadron, the idea behind it is that Goldsaber are essentially leading a New Republic task force against Warlord Galgriev and Starchaser's forces, with the ISD serving as their operational hub (I'm thinking of calling the campaign against Nightmare Operation: Waking Dream and naming the ISD serving as their hub the Dream Eater), the task force likely consists of several infantry groups with various vehicle platoons, and several fighter and bomber squadrons, with Goldsaber at the head, like the tip of a spear, if you will! ...Funnily enough I'm guessing that's where Quinn got the name for one of her books, Goldsaber: The Rebellion's Spear, I think when Orchid starts being independent (well... Independent-ish... XD) Quinn really gets into writing as a hobby, which explains her memoirs.

Hahahah! Not to mention, it rather stands out! No chance of friendly fire, and also a tempting target for the enemy, drawing fire away from other allied ships.

Heheh, thanks, I really quite enjoy messing around with paint jobs! XD

By the time she has the now Starchaser and all its trappings she is also getting older and after all she's been through I can understand her desire to semi-retire or at the very least remove herself from the galactic order after a fashion so that she might pursue her own goals and dreams finally instead of others.

That makes sense actually, I imagine that they get several other squadrons attached to them as well as additional capital ships to form a force similar to that which Han Solo commanded during his campaign against Warlord Zsinj.

And certainly no one could mistake the ships for anything other than what they were! It's kinda cool and in a way reminiscent of the way the Old Republic liked to bedeck their ships during the Clone Wars era before the Empire's matte paint jobs came into effect.

Stealing from the Imps and defacing their ships to look more your style is always a hoot!

By the Force, it must've been Hell to paint that Star Destroyer....

Indeed... what Rebels they are...

Pfft-- I know right? Though it's a great deterrent against it being recaptured by the Imperial Remnant, I'd hate to be the guy who's gotta remove it!
