So here it is, finally! I was getting tired of the super old ref Vreyin had and decided to update her. I love revamps ~
In case anyone was wondering, 99% of the text is in past tense on purpose because it's indicating she's long dead. Like all of the other avians.
Oh, and you can see a preview of the new Shrike!
I don't have much to say at the moment, so I'd just like to say a special thanks to =kilara , ~Foxchibi , and =Humingbird for their help and support. C:
Also, this species belongs to =kilara and are not an 'open species', so please refrain from making one for your own as it is disrespectful to do so without her permission. She has quite a few awesome open species though! Here's a nice little list: [link]

Oh goodness Sky, this is gorgeous<3 Everything looks...so 'solid' and plausible and whatnot. I love her revamped colour scheme too, simpler but at the same time really stunning, I love the pattern/gradient on her wings, and her sleek look~ Honestly I just keep reading over the whole sheet, the layout works and flows so well. And it's pretty. Oh so pretty. xD
And I'm really intrigued with new!Shrike! He looks less cluttered, though I did find the skullface pattern nifty, but I can't wait to see him in full!
Hmm, this reminds me of all the refs I have to doooo |D *dodges bricks from Konig and Tabris and Skyler*

Yeah I thought now was a better time than any to unveil new!Shrike, and although he no longer wears his skull mask, I miiiight make it his 'favourite spell' just the same how Vreyin loves her fireflies. Still something to think about though. :>

OK now I have time to actually compose a coherent comment:
This has to be my favorite ref sheet of yours to date, especially the way
you changed up the box layout. I had a blast reading over everything again
along with all the new information I didn't know <333
I had to go back and look at her old sheet to see what was updated and WOW
was there alot lol. I'm particularly fond of the newer father designs and colors <33
The pinion feathers are fantastic, what a great take on having them overlap
while still being connected, love it ;D Also I feel the newer tail fathers make
much more sense in this version to go along with her sleek figure as well as
matching the wings.
AND IS THAT A NEW STRIKE I SEE IN THE BACKGROUND C8
She's had such a rough life, I feel so bad for her ;o; but you did
such a great job giving everyone an insight into her personality.
Also those eyes are INTENSE OMG, like little burning orbs of light.
I knew she was big but not THAT BIG WHOA XD, I love how small
Iio and Saiya look next to her in those silhouettes XDD
I wish i could see her human version at a larger size since

Yeah I pretty much gave her an entire face lift didn't I? XD Probably one of the only changes I didn't make was keeping her purple base color.
Rereading all of the information on her older ref, I didn't do her much justice for who she really was. I had more joking moments than actually trying to exemplify her personality. Ah the changes two years can. D:
And YES! Shrike got a makeover too. I can't wait to draw him.. someday. 8> Maybe sooner than I think as I work on commissions! *whoo breaks*
I wish I hadn't accidentally deleted her human form now. 8C So many people wanted to see it. Argh. Oh well, I'll just have to draw her human self someday. c:

ah I just adore reading your reference sheets ^^ I love all the detail and scientific notations you add into the descriptions to make it more realistic. It's much more enjoyable to read that way, in my opinion. And the colors! They are always the most magnificent of display in your work, I just can't get enough ^^

I love reading about avian characters <3 they are usually so involved and have complex stories already. Not to mention the purples and oranges you used here are one of my favorite combinations x3

Purples/reds/oranges make the best gradients, so pleasing and eye catching all at the same time. I can see why you love them!

that anatomy and coloration *fans self* you manage to combine those colors so brilliantly, making her very pleasant to look at
my favourite parts of this has to be the wings, and those facial pinions that, together with the wing pinions balance off her otherwise 'heavy' appearance c:

Aw Sky <3 She's absolutely beautiful. I really adore colorations and her new sleek form. Her new adaptions to her colors and her overall shape was a very nice touch, especially with the wing change and the pinions with how they look like earrings was a good idea. Her past of her family and how she received her scars, as always, put the readers in wonder. You write beautifully <3
Also I would like to say that Shrikes new coloration was interesting as well, more balanced and blended with the other colors that are on him.
I could go on and on about this and that about her C:> You did one amazing and fantastic job on her.

Its a huge, but very nice difference. Didn't really realize it till now that you also changed her scaling as well, which I thought was a nice touch to her, as she's elegant and sleek. Even her human form looks interesting, and I hope you draw more of her C:
Though, I still can't get over how much I love her new wing coloration, the transition of yellows to reds to purple and the lone blue feather is just

This is amazing! I love the dark mix of colors that just pop out with that lovely goldish yellow. The detail is amazing, and the story is very interesting/creative.

Holy hell girl! This is beautiful! ;3; She looks so much more alive now with such realistic anatomy and the colors being so clear and duller than the retinal burnage colors in the older reference .u. These colors truly feel good in my eyes *I've always loved both purple and warm colors* c: And you blend them so well together!
Hehe, my eyes cannot understand the dual-pinions >D> I find myself trying to find the rest of the lower pinion all the time (silly eyes) but I like the idea c:

I agree, she looks MUCH better compared to her old ref in not just the anatomy department, but color design. ;;
And the added organization (boxes!) makes it flow so well, I think, rather than the random floating body parts the old ref had. So disfunctional. XD
I don't think hugging her would hurt at all, it's not like she's covered in OMGSPIKES or anything (unless we're talking about the line of ridges along her flank, those are akin to the ridges found on crocodilians c: ). Her hardened leather-like plates are actually very smoooooth ~
MAYAN SORCERESS YOU SAY. That's awesome. XD Her garb was actually based on ancient Egyptian wear! But Mayan Sorceress sounds so much more epic! /flex

Oh my god, I think IΒ΄ve never seen such an amazing reference sheet!
IΒ΄m usually not the one who leaves much comments, but I would hyperventilating if I wouldnΒ΄t leave one on this piece of grace~
Every little image you draw here, has so much details, I could stare 5 miniutes at it and it wouldnΒ΄t be enough for me. The colourful character makes it hard for one not to read the sheet, because it catches your attention and doesnΒ΄t let it go away again til you have read everything. I allways wondered when you would update the sheet ov vreyin, because you rarely let sheets get older
Her scaledesign and colours are pretty complicated but its even more interesting to draw her! She really shows how much you improved since you did the first sheet. Everything is so clean and - really - just beautiful.
I donΒ΄t know why, but IΒ΄m fascinated of that size imadge you drew next to her colour chart. IΒ΄ver never seen something by other artists before. So itΒ΄s nice to know how big the differance between some avians can be.
You simply did an awesome job by this, sky!

Let's see where to begin.. Well I'd first like to say thanks for taking time to write all of that, and another thanks for liking the new ref as much as you do! It of course means a lot <3
Yeah I was wondering when I'd ever get around to updating her sheet too, many months ago, I actually had started a new ref about six months ago, but I didn't like how it was turning out so I deleted it entirely. I'm glad I postponed it or else I wouldn't have the ref I do now. <3
I'll be sure to keep the size chart element in mind for future refs, I never would have imagined that particular box would be so popular! XDD
Aaaand to answer your question ~ I use either a size 3, 4, or 5px brush for line art. Coloring/shading can be any size and any shape at varying opacities. :>
