Description
Ok, this is a compilation on some notes I have taken over the past 5 years or so. This is a tiny snippit of that information. I have reams and reams of information to go through and organize. I want to publish a book on my ideas.no one has ever publish an anatomy book based primarily on women. Sure there have been "how to draw Comic Females" and "how to draw Anime Females" But never a "How to draw female anatomy" book.
So tell me if you think these patterns are useful. Let me know if the help you draw females better.

While I'm halfway decent at drawing anime-style girls, this really helps. I think I'll learn a lot from this. If you DO do a book, of course you'll spend pages on the different parts and how they work together, but this is a good showing of your style. The shoulders especially help, as I've been struggling with those.
Overall, I love this, though I'd love a side-silhouette with the arm in there; I have trouble with that angle. Awesome job!

Awesome work!
FYI, there is a website called Pose Maniacs ([link] ) that I absolutely LOVE. It's awesome for reference of the human body (both male and female), and best of all there are pictures of bodies in just about every position you can imagine! There are almost almost 20k poses in their random pose viewer here: [link]
Also, there are also some great reference books regarding anatomy for artists. Just go to your favorite bookseller's website and search for "anatomy for the artist" (or you can do a Google search for the same, and you'll come up with lots of results. I bought one several years back that was published by Barnes and Nobel, and I love it! It's huge (an oversized book)and very comprehensive. The best thing about it was that I got it on sale for about $10. I've also seen tons of these artist reference books at used book stores (a great resource for art books which can be horridly expensive).
Anyway, hope that helps! And keep up the great artwork, tutorials, and reference guides! They're very helpful and invaluable!

Very useful, you pointed out a number of things I didn't notice and when I look at previous drawings, normaly the better ones include these details. For someone with a very Luis Royo approach to theme, I draw women a lot more than men. Thankyou indeed.

I don't think I have ever seen a grid just like this,so I shall try it and see...I only have very traditional anatomy books, and the old masters...but this is very useful for the sort of stylised sketching I do[and my anatomy sorely needs work
]...so thankyou!![I'll give you more feedback when I have tried it out!!...although I'm fairly sure you have plenty by now!!

Thanks so much for this, The female torso has always been really hard for me to draw so, this helps!
But I read the comment between you and Gironimo and was wondering what you meant? When you say "drawing with a grid" you mean drawing with lines and shapes and stuff as the outline so you can flesh out the drawing later? Cuz I was always taught that is was bad to just draw something without using some sort of guidelines? Do you draw without guidelines?
I know this has nothing to do with the tutorial but I just wanted your opinion...

Snigom In reply to xxindescribablexx [2009-08-13 15:48:38 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome.
Well..grids are primarily for when you want to copy an image and/or increase the size. As for this discussion, i was told that using guidelines was some how bad. Which is odd considering that almost all the old masters used guidelines. I use guides of some sort when I am trying to draw something I don't already know how to draw. Like perspective, foreshortening, and dynamic poses.

Gironimo [2009-08-05 15:25:00 +0000 UTC]
I like your tutorial it shows the basic shapes and I'm sure it will help a lot of people.
but I wouldn't suggest others to draw a grid before starting to draw. I've heared by other deviants in US you usually get teached to start with it. but I experienced it ruins you feeling for the whole figure and general proportions, which is worse especially for beginners to enhance their skills. and so other artists from europe told me.
I've checked out your gallery and I've seen you're a very talented and experienced artist. don't get me wrong, I just wouldn't give a hint to kind of determine the artistical progress.

Snigom In reply to Gironimo [2009-08-05 19:42:22 +0000 UTC]
Actually I was never taught to use grids. I was told to draw what I see. In comic art they tell you to use grids. Some people have responded to that and some don't.
I wanted to offer a new way to look at drawing humanity. To update the concepts laid down by the old masters
The truth is that an artist should truly draw what he/she sees. Then memorize it so that it can be re-drawn without reference. These patterns are what I use to remember what I originally saw.

That's a good idea; you should have chapters on different figures (H, apple, pear, 8, etc.) and on different weight-sets (fit, heavy, thin, 'average,' severely under/overweight, etc.)
