Description Alright, the one a few have been waiting for. The patterns for the male are less complicated than the female patterns. Go figure . There is also quite a bit more explanation than before.

There is a section of major differences between male and female parts (other than the obvious) that cause distinction between genders.

I hope this tutorial helps.

So...any other Anatomy tutorial suggestions that might be helpful?

Update: Wow...a DD after....6 years of posting work! Awesome! It couldn't have happened to a better piece of work. I hope it enriches the skills of any and all who use them.

you. are. my. hero! i have been looking for something like this forever, a semi simplified but detailed comparison of the male and female anatomy. unfortunately my life drawing class seems to be geting only female models. which is all fine and dandy but not the best if you want to draw both male and female... so thank you so much!

How would you go about drawing a male without as much muscle?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Snigom In reply to XiaoFung [2009-04-04 06:02:07 +0000 UTC]

Decrease the width on arms and legs. Then decrease the amount of muscle detail if not remove it completely. In other words, just draw an outline and leave out drawing all the Bicep, etc.

If you could please make a tutorial about the hip region? I have major problems with that area, especially when drawing people standing in 3/4 pers.

thanks very much for providing our community with this resource - the pelvis side view really helps!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Snigom In reply to Dragon-Shojo [2009-03-09 21:48:32 +0000 UTC]

I shall have to take that into consideration. I haven't made a good pattern for learning the 3/4's view as I am still struggling with it.

haha... i have the most trouble with front views, mainly due to my dislike of drawing symmetry...

but thanks for thinking about it. ^^

Have you? has anyone actually seen a real person? How do you define 'real?' What is the basis of comparison to 'real'.

I don't know. No one knows.

This has been immensely helpful. If thereΒ΄s one thing I have trouble with itΒ΄s proportions. And bad proportions ruin pictures like nothing else. IΒ΄m far from Β΄thereΒ΄ yet, but this has certainly helped in getting a better understanding of the male anatomy. So thank you for making and posting this

This is AMAZING. That diagram right below the first two pictures is the single most helpful thing I have ever come across trying to master the male figure. Do you have more details on that or a fuller picture? I didn't have to trace or draw over it with the mouse or anything...it's perfect for basic shapes. Thank you so much.

Thank you again!

These are very helpful, and this is coming from someone who usually walks by the "how to draw books" at bookstores and scoffs like " I don't need no stinking book, hmpf " haha the truth is these little proportion tricks are great to keep in mind like, "butt has the shape of two faces put together" who'd a thunk thanks for the great tips.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Snigom In reply to Statik-Scene [2008-11-26 18:13:11 +0000 UTC]

You're right. I have been collecting books on Anatomy for years and found that the majority are from old plates from the 1930's up to the 50's and no one has ever really added to it since.
