Description Beginner's tutorial for using the Canvases feature in DAZ Studio's Iray renderer. I tried to make this as simple and straightforward as I could - hopefully it makes sense!

Thanks for taking a look!

Just tested again and it will not work...

With Alpha On, my hair+Backdrop image gets invisible, with Alpha off, my hair is there, but the background is just black... but I did set a image in the environment.

The Backdrop image is btw. not selectable in the Nodelist in Step 5/6.

Background images do not render separately in canvases, that is normal.

LittleDragonKid In reply to SnowSultan [2020-01-23 01:00:28 +0000 UTC]

but... how then do I use my background image if it isnt loaded in the render?

Hi!

I tested it and... nope :8 also should it work in active Iray so i can see the effect without rendering it?

i.epvpimg.com/IYmNaab.jpg

i wanted to show the spoon on the table, because its a backdrop the spoon will make no shadow, so I placed the pane there, if I use the SPotRender my render will be empty...

Made I something wrong?

Did you set it to New Window? It's possible things have changed since I made this tutorial. I'll try to test it soon.

LittleDragonKid In reply to SnowSultan [2020-01-07 00:17:32 +0000 UTC]

I always set to new window, the other one is stupid, also you can not cancel the other... which I hate... and I hate that I can not set it default to new window *sigh*

hmmm yeah the nodes I guess... I had the plane not attached to anything also you said I should NOT select the plane in your tutorial so... you didnt talked about parenting the stuff. (I guess you mean parenting with connecting?)

I dont know why, but my brain gets dizzy if I read your comment it can not translate your words into something.. touchable for my brain... I hate that sometimes

I wanna understand what you mean and how the magic works but I can't touch your words... they will not be... working in my head, I'm native German, so I have to translate in my head and right now I struggle... Your tutorial was helpful with images, so I understand all better

I see now another problem, which I maybe had with my last test, the backdrop image doesnt get used... and in this case, the cube also create shadows :<

I just made a tets build how the books would make a shadow on the table a jpg image.

a problem of my brain is, that I stay up sometimes for 2-3days without sleeping and right now I was just 12hours up, but I am really tired... I want too much from my body and need a better sleeping cycle...

I will try it again from your tutorial just for testing.

Β And tell you then if it works.

It hasn't proven to be as useful as I thought because I can't get the renders to go on long enough to stop being grainy, but the possibilities are definitely there. Thanks for taking a look!

Thank you for this tutorial.Β  For me, it will be useful to isolate/render figures from scenes so that I can add motion blur and photoshop them together into a final image.
