Description
Another Metroid picture.I got the idea to draw it when I was comparing the SA-X with Dark Samus.
Unlike Dark Samus, the SA-X is much more scary and terrifying. In almost every encounter with SA-X, you'll have to run and hide or get killed.
Dark Samus is more like an ordinary boss with Samus' looks. Not even a bit scary.
Sketched with pencil.
The rest was done in Adobe Photoshop CS2.
Took around 8h.

You're not human if you didn't become terrified when you heard those footsteps. Now if you'll excuse me, I must hide.

Ah SA-X, the one thing in that game that gives Fusion its dark vibes. If it's not the music, it's the SA-X...

From Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks? I guess they carry similar qualities by being bad business if they see you, but that's it.

It's been 11 years since I first played Fusion, and I'm 19 years old, but I still freak the f$@k out when I run into SA-X.
Is that bad?

Sol-Zephyr In reply to EagleNut [2013-09-11 15:24:52 +0000 UTC]
No, it's not. It's still lethal if you just stand around.
Besides, that mugshot at first sight in-game is not easily forgotten...
Here, free nightmares are on me!

Timeless horror game indeed.
I just wish someone would make a random-encounter, smart SA-X hack of the game.
Then it would be complete!

that would have been greatΒ
it would have given the game a intense thrill to it seeing how the Sa-x encounters would be mor frequently random as it didnt folow the story progression. players would constantly dreading the moment when one of those copies just appeared out of nowhere

It would also get a lot harder.
In early game you would get destroyed trying to run away from it in tight environments.
However, once you get the Plasma Beam, challanging it at each encounter would be possible.
I'm just imagining it fleeing as after the real battle if you win though.
You'll always only face one. But for kicks, let's make multiple SA-X encounters possible once that fact is revealed late-game.
Strangely, I just want the game even more, the more I mentioned these unbalancing ideas...!

Nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING, has scared me as much as the SA-X has in video games.
Nothing.

That thing made you stay tense through most of the game, not knowing when it'd strike.
Just imagine how it would've been if the encounter really were random.

The general atmosphere was already bad enough, but they had to introduce an overpowered stalker antagonist that turned out to be the worst nightmare-fuel I've found in any video game yet. And people say that Nintendo only makes kid games...
...just the thought is gonna haunt my sleep for another month...

Metroid is one of the few larger franchises Nintendo has that's not straight up a kids game. It's a shame to see it decay the way it is now...

And we've got Team Ninja to thank for that. Other M my eye. -_-
Hopefully though, Nintendo's silence on the Metroid series is signifying something positive, especially when coupled with Retro Studio's statement that they're working on something that 'everyone has wanted us to do for a long time now.'

Because parts of her chozo suit were at the BSL station at the time of the incident. The X got to those suit parts, and from them formed several mimicries of Samus.

Must have been the first encounter where you encounter it from a maintenance shaft above.
SA-X is just a simple lifeform. It doesn't know better. Cut it some slack!
