Description Yay, a new Metroid-comic!

Samus usually starts out with no power-ups. Why does she do that? Sometimes it makes sense i ex: Metroid Fusion.
But mostly it's just like if...
This comic is probably answering that question. Enjoy!

And if you can't figure it out, square 2-4 takes place in the beginning of Super Metroid.

Sketched and edited in Photoshop CS2.

I don't get the impression that the power-ups constrain her agility.
She looks as agile as ever and the amount of power-ups will increase her odds. I just think it's only logical game play-wise perhaps. Except for the games where it looks more like she's borrowing technology, like from the Luminoth.

let me put it this way. if she kept all of her power ups in each game, then there will be absolutly no room for the new stuff.

I've never seen a capacity roof in her suit, except ammo according to expansions. Nice thought anyway. There's probably some limit, but I doubt it's measures in bytes.

This is why I like Other M and Fusion xD

They give you a reason to not to use your full suit, in other games you just wonder wtf happened D:

Well at least I have a reason with when... Well, why my Totodile Joseph doesn't keep most of his stuff. (that he have on his version of the Gravity Suit, the Gravity Plate)

In short, he had to sell most of them to pay for maintenance of his own organization, which is expensive, so he had to sell 1 part after the other, fast.

Kind of makes sense, right?

Although it makes more sense of the situation, some situations where you're allowed parts of your gear in Other M is just plain stupid.

I though she landed on the planet (she lands on) and trips, dropping all her power-ups. XD

Sounds funny, but item-collecting would be simple since they would lie a few feet away at most.

Samus: "Right, I have all my power-ups. Now to start a new advwnture"

*trips on a rock and all power-up falls down the drain*

"No~...DX my power-up" ;,;

- Missles lost
- Varus suit lost
- Space jump lost
- Freese Beam lose
*contunies to list all lost items*
- All hope of surviving lost.

XD But yesh, some basic stuff then to be close by but my brother did make a great point. Did these guy knew Samus was to come to the planet and put it there?

Well, the planets where Chozo once inhabitated since reasonable considering they leave their arsenal in their facilties. Then there's the other circumstances Samus acquires items from other aliens or so. Her suit is very versatile.

-------------------------
Beams:
Charge
Ice
Wave
-
Plasma
(altså, jag har alla strålar utom Spazer)
-------------------------
Suits:
-
Gravity Suit
-------------------------
Misc:
Morphing Ball
Bomb
-
-
-------------------------
Boots:
Hi-Jump Boots
-
-
-------------------------
Energy Tanks: 1499-80%= 299 (ungefär)
Missiles: 255-80%= 45 (ungefär)
Super Missiles: 50-80%= 10
Power Bombs: 50-80%= 10

LightDemonCodeH [2010-03-07 20:56:37 +0000 UTC]

She is a BOUNTY Hunter, I imagine she gets monetarily compensated for finishing missions and then she sells her equipment to the Galactic Federation. She spends most of it on her ship, which explains how she has a new upgraded ship on every outing. And she just starts from scratch because she can only carry so many energy tanks and missle upgrades, and that's money she wouldn't be collecting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sol-Zephyr In reply to LightDemonCodeH [2010-03-08 09:15:31 +0000 UTC]

I can't imagaine Samus giving away the Chozo power-ups.
And I think being an unrivaled bounty hunter pays off by itself to upgrade or buy new space ships.
And the idea of leaving power-ups behind just because you expect to collect new ones seems rather reckless.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LightDemonCodeH In reply to Sol-Zephyr [2010-03-08 17:57:25 +0000 UTC]

hmm, well maybe she has no choice in the matter if she works for the Galactic Federation she would be under orders to surrender her found inventory.
It would explain how the GF are able to send her upgrades via the downaload system in Metroid Fusion. It could also explain as to how all the GF Marines have the same basic suit similar to Samus' and how the Space Marines have the Ice Beam technology in Metroid Other M.

BlackMage1234 In reply to LightDemonCodeH [2010-03-09 16:46:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, also according to Other M Samus's old CO is kind of miffed at her for leaving the federation to work as a freelance bounty hunter. And since Other M picks up right after Super, she's got to have broken with them relatively early in her career.
But as I said in a previous comment, I once heard a theory that she actually breaks the stuff from wear and tear. Sounds reasonable to me, as that Chozo stuff is ancient and is frequently (ab)used by Samus over the coruse of the games.

BlackMage1234 [2010-03-05 16:16:44 +0000 UTC]

I think only Fusion and Metroid Prime 2/3 actually explained where the gear went. In Fusion the suit is infected and at the end of Prime the Luminoth gets back their ancient equipment (presumably so that they can defend themselves from whatever while rebuilding).
If we assume that Samus gives her equipment to the Federation so that they can reverse-engineer it for their troops, that explains the Ice Beams they now wield in Other M. But it does not explain were Samus' Super Metroid gear went then, because it picks up literally minutes after the end of Super Metroid. O_o

I once saw a theory that it wears down fast due to age and/or frequent wear and tear with no repair; so fast that it has to be discarded after only a few hours. Which is coincidentally the time it takes to beat the average Metroid game...

Sol-Zephyr In reply to BlackMage1234 [2010-03-05 17:49:19 +0000 UTC]

Samus' Super Metroid gear ended up in the hands of SA-X if I'm correct.
The stuff from Metroid II however is also a mystery.

BlackMage1234 In reply to Sol-Zephyr [2010-03-08 07:16:21 +0000 UTC]

But Fusion is chronologically the last of the Metroid games so far, so were did her gear go in Other M?

Sol-Zephyr In reply to BlackMage1234 [2010-03-08 09:19:33 +0000 UTC]

No idea. I'm staying away from Other M until release, so I don't know when it takes place. What I get, it's around Super Metroid.

BlackMage1234 In reply to Sol-Zephyr [2010-03-09 16:42:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it picks up literally right after the end of Super Metroid. From what I get from the demo I've heard of the introduction is a short vid of Samus destroying Mother Brain.

Lol it always bugged me how when you go back to your ship theres a bunch of missels, and in Super Metroid all you need is a missel to shoot missels. D:< get the danm missles from your ship!

I kinda see it as the first Missile "expansion" is the missile launcher module.
It just includes 5 missiles or whatever you get for the first one.

No, but then again, logicly, there are no bounty hunters in space fighting space pirates.
