An animated stamp reflecting my feelings about the Sonic cast. I'm sick of people whining about how there are too many characters. You see a lot of other series get away with handfuls of characters, so what's the big deal with Sonic?All the sprites are from Sonic Battle.

They really don't. When was the last time the supporting cast had any significance aside from being Sonic's cheerleaders? When was the last time Mighty, Heavy, Bomb, Ray, Fang, Bean, Bark, Metal Knuckles, or Tails Doll appeared? When was the last time there was a playable character aside from Sonic?

What, SEGA's not allowed to have one-time-only characters?Β Not everyone has to appear in every game.

No, it's just that they don't need to have one-time characters when there's already existing characters who could fit in their place. SEGA could incorporate the forgotten 1990's cast if they tried.

There's been a lot of friction about the series allegedly straying from its roots in terms of gameplay.Β With that in mind, there's got to be some limit on who's playable.

Sonic's gameplay has definitely flew far from what's it's supposed to be. Just look at Sonic 4, Sonic Rush, and Sonic Unleashed daytime stages.

I couldn't agree more with this.
Nobody seems to complain about Mario or Street Fighter having a huge cast of characters. So what's their excuse for picking on Sonic for this?

Personally, I think they have quite a variety of different personalities, which is the reason why I like the cast... But, eh. Complaining is one of the (at times) undesirable parts of human nature, at the end of the day.

I do like all of the Sonic cast except for Shadow in my opinion. I mean his character was great in SA2 until they bring him back from the dead in Sonic Heroes which ruined his death. But I just wish we can get more character development on Amy Rose, Tails etc. rather than Shadow -smh

I don't hate Shadow, but my god the way the fanbase treats him and because of his overrated popularity he overshadows every character leaving little to no room for them at all.Β
Weather the fans like it or not, Shadow is partly to blame for the bad sides of the franchise and lack of character development. I mean look at Knuckles in adventure 1 and before compared to how he is now, since Shadow's in the picture Knuckles is reduced to a idiot punching bag who's pointless.
And I hate how the fanbase always replaces Amy or Tails or even all the classic characters in favor him. Shadow is not a main character yet he overshadows the originals. I mean the way this fanbase treat Shadow and how they do makes me not want to be a fan of him honestly. I mean it's bad enough Shadow's fanbase fails to see how he has no personality at all besides be a typical dark version of main character cliche and having a one-dimensional one side dark personality. And people bitch at Amy for being pointless, yet Shadow only exist just to please the fans who want him back and to be there for fanservice.. And they claim that as serving a purpose?
Amy is only bad as of recently due to bad writing and writers lack of usage of the character. Amy's character has signs of being good with potential. Shadow is already done, and notice how any story that has Shadow in it is always the most flawed with story telling or out of place, yet the fans accept it... They blindly defend all Shadow's flaws and see him as perfect.
Like I stated "I'm a fan of Shadow to" But this fanbase makes it hard for me to like him. Especially since he's the most unoriginal of all of them.

I believe the reason people make a big deal about the Sonic cast because the featured characters seemed "underdeveloped" and they take character development WAAAY too seriously, which I findΒ very annoyingΒ (I know it important, but they act like it's the only thing that matter in anything).

no game franchise can survive without the creation of interesting or new characters to inhabit the world that the story is set in. even if some characters are annoying or bland, they still interact with the world around them giving another layer of immersion.

If there ever was a reboot, I don't want them to get rid of all the characters. Maybe bring back some old ones like Mighty, Fang, the Battle Kukkus.
The only exception would be Eggman Nega because he's not a good character in any way.
