Description 7th February, 2007.

I've made this my featured deviation because after seeing Roger Waters live, I have no choice.

It offends me that I have to put this in a "Miscellaneous" category.

I wonder how many people know who Roger Waters is?

I’d say more people would be familiar with Pink Floyd, although these days, not many more.

It’s a shame that music is no longer a form of art, more a form of consumerism. A way of selling products and getting talent-less ‘beautiful’ people in the spotlight for a few seconds of fame.

I find it difficult to express just how horrific and offensive I find the fact that the likes of Paris Hilton can release a digitally processed, totally artificial facsimile of what was once music and have it played on all the popular radio stations, while real music quietly dies in a corner.

It is with some satisfaction that I note Roger Waters has done more for music than hacks like Paris Hilton and her ilk, and winners of (insert country name here) Idol ever will.

Just like television, it shows us what the majority want to see. Reality Game Shows, tedious American sitcoms, repetitive “dramas”. Nobody is interested in the real world, what is really going on. Fuck wars and plagues and death, nevermind all that, just make sure you show Big Brother every night and we’re happy.

I am grateful for people like Roger Waters who actually attempt something meaningful in their music. Keep fighting, Roger, the world needs more people like you.

This can be considered a sequel to Brain Damage . Although clearly this one is more Roger Waters orientated than the first, but the wall and the prism of light is mirrored in this new picture.

Roger is holding a microphone and a pen, and although I do admit that when someone compared him to a shrieking cat when he sings can be pretty correct, there is something about his voice that appeals to me. The pen represents his writing, having written the lyrics to some of Floyd’s (and his own) best albums.
The bass is for his main instrument, being the brooding bass player of Pink Floyd.

The albums I have attempted to pay tribute to:

The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking: The naked woman with the backpack. Yeah I basically traced her off a scan of the album, slack am I.
This album was Roger’s first solo album, the title track is my favourite here. Great album to listen to while driving

Radio KAOS: The radio tower on top of the wall, also the nu-clee-ar explosion. Another concept album, not exactly my sort of thing, but I do like the way the last three tracks blend together.

Amused to Death: Again the nuclear explosion could apply here, also the spaceman and television. This is my favourite Roger Waters album. Perfect Sense kicks ultimate arse.

Wish You Were Here: The diamond in the sky, which has replaced the prism from the album of Dark Side of the Moon with the refracted beams of light.

The Wall: Well, the wall clearly. The first Floyd/Waters album I ever heard. God dammit, from that point on, I was hooked.

Ça Ira: The little group of people waving the red flag. An opera in three acts. I love to listen to this at work when I’m alone in the factory and crank the volume right up.

To Kill the Child/Leaving Beirut: I wish I had included something for these songs, but all I got in was the lyrics about George Bush...

Those three men in the distance are David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright, the remaining members of Pink Floyd, the ghostly figure beside them is Syd Barrett.

The graffiti on the wall is all taken from lyrics of various Roger Waters’ penned songs.

And when they found our shadows
Grouped 'round the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then, the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death

I'm listening to Radio KAOS right this minute as I type this. Pink Floyd is my favorite band ever. And Roger is a phenomenal musician. I'm waiting for Amused to Death to finally come out on ITunes. I'm tired of looking it up on YouTube. And yes, a lot of today's music and culture really sucks. Nice pic!

*sigh* We need more people like him, I see him not just as a musician but an highly experienced poet, an insightful philosopher and an author.

we need his lyrics and poetry to be featured in English classes in schools.

I love this so much, every time when I watch this I think about my first concert. That was Roger Waters The Wall. That was 23.7.2013. . That was one of the best days in my life. I was 11, now I am 12 and I think that music today is so bad. I love old rock music and I really like your picture.

I agree with what you said about music today. There is no real substance in it.There are a few good new artists today but they are few and far between.Classic Rock stations are getting pushed away very slowly.Of course those Classic Rock stations play the same songs over and over again. They dont play the deeper cuts anymore.Thats why I really only listen to my ipod with the classic rock songs that I want to hear

I recognised Jim's name from Radio K.A.O.S. I'm pretty pleased that he's still around, fighting the good fight.

Thanks for your comments and spreading the art to the fans, it's great to see people still care about the music.

nice peiece of work

the gift of waters and his point maybe that the
effort to change what is required is down to the individual?

if enough people make a point, and something that those who can see through the manufacture of band up to and including the likes of my chemical romance are probably waiting for, then things can affect change?

after 4 decades in which Ive gone to watch shows
rw at manchester 07 may 2007 was the best, ever, period

got some show pix of the show at [link]
hope you like them

yes, very good observation, I'd say you're probably right.

"Each small candle"

I was lucky enough to see Roger Waters live in February this year, it was awesome, I feel so lucky as out of all the musicians I like, he is the one I wanted to see the most.

Sorry I can't see you pictures as I don't have a myspace, but I would think that your show would have been pretty similar to the one I saw, which was great .

thanks for your comment

wow, that's amazing!!!!!!
I totally agree with ALL that you said.
one thing that really disapoints me:
me: *listening to ipod*
friend: whatcha listening to?
me: stairway to heaven.
friend: say what?
me: *hands on face* *mumbles "kill me now kill me now kill me now"*

that is pretty depressing... I mean even if you're not a Led Zeppelin fan, how can you not know 'Stairway to Heaven'?

I love Pink Floyd, and Roger Waters, IS Pink Floyd!

You're so right about the filth society deems 'entertainers'. In all seriousness, bravo Paris, you let the world watch you fuck someone, now you really have talent! (what an idiot she is) These people are fickle, if only there were more entertainers now-a-days with the right mentality and inetelligence (not that society is void of them look at Incubus) but none the less there is deffintely a serious lack of them!

Seeing Roger live in his recent tour (thank *insert divine being* that he's touring again!) changed my outlook on life somewhat. This man is a prophet! His music is inspiring, prophetic and a message to the world. It's too bad the entertainer's of today are simply cattle! All hail MR. Waters And as you said...

''Keep fighting, Roger, the world needs more people like you.''

Nice to find a fellow like minded individual.

"and Roger Waters, IS Pink Floyd!"

Funny, seeing Roger live made me feel the same way. I do like the two albums the other guys put out after Roger left, but yeah as far as I'm concerned, I agree completely with your statement

I wish I'd seen him when he played here. But alas, no such luck. I do like the image, the grass is excellent, it's extremely rare to see good grass, and yours is top notch. The wall looks too much like it's falling back though, but other than that, it's totally boss.

Spaceman-Chris In reply to Petur-G [2006-09-15 01:28:07 +0000 UTC]

"the lunatic is on the grass..."

I dilberately put the wall at an odd angle because it looked too plain and boring standing straight up.

great use of colours and random objects in the background, there most likely not so random for you due to the fact you know what they all represent but to me its oh so random i like how this picture seems to have Mr Waters mind blown all over the canvas to produce images ffrom album covers, lyrics ect. As if hes walking around in his own mind I feel like im reading a book just goin over you description and do 100% agree *how could i disagree your a rant god* so once again great rant, great pic, i give you a 2nd ;D
