Description
For once I sketched a picture that came out exactly as I pictured it. Unfortunately it didn’t come out as I pictured it once I photoshopped it. As I write this, it still needs some adjustements, but overall I’m pretty happy with it.

As I drew this in flash, photoshop and POV-Ray I listened to a continuous stream of Pink Floyd. Woo!

Originally this was titled “Wish you were here” after I drew the guy’s expression, but it evolved into a larger Pink Floyd picture. I see this boy as a teenager, representing the age where most fans discover Pink Floyd, perhaps while searching through his parents CD collection. After hearing how radically different the music is from the typical-mass-marketed-reality-tv-inspired-popstar-no-talent-only-popular-because-they’re-attractive-or-ripped-off-some-classic-song that he’s force fed on the radio, he listens to more and becomes part of a world where music is experimental, the lyrics powerful, something that is sadly lacking in most modern music.

Something that annoys me is the whole drug culture around Pink Floyd, not the drugs as such, but the idea that you can only enjoy Pink Floyd while tripping on acid or high on weed… I read a comment on a message board about some guy asking whether he’d enjoy the film version of The Wall even though he was too young to smoke weed. Personally, I think if you need drugs to enjoy something, you shouldn’t bother with it in the first place.

This is dedicated to all the bleeding hearts and artists, animals, lunatics, crazy diamonds, and David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Rick Wright, Roger Waters and of course Syd Barret.
