Its very good for never crocheting before. A+ I like how everyone is so inventive with the beak and feet.

about how long do you think you have to practice crochet before you can make an amigurumi?

Sparrow-dream In reply to barabu [2008-03-09 22:05:48 +0000 UTC]
I've been crocheting since I was about 8, but I didn't realize I could make amigurumi until I was 16 so I don't know. Some people pick up crocheting really fast while others have problems with tension and following patterns. If you already know how to do basic steps such as single crochet, increasing, and decreasing then you can start making amigurumi right away.

When I decrease I have to make it really tight to avoid the giant holes.

pretty cute ima make it this will be my second attempt at amigurumi. my first one i think will never be finished im afraid to find out what it looks like. i think i have some fundamental crochet problems.
just a quick question when it says 2 sc. do u count the loop on your hook as one sc and then make another one and thats number two?
π: 0 β©: 1
Sparrow-dream In reply to evilbeef [2008-03-06 04:04:22 +0000 UTC]
The loop on the hook doesn't count as the first sc. Unless you mean the loopy things coming off from it...uhh Its kind of hard to explain without pictures. I found a link that might be helpful [link]

here's the finished product
not a great color choice, i tried to embroider the eyes (mistake).
but for a 1st shot could've been worse.

Sparrow-dream In reply to gyozamonsta [2008-02-04 04:40:13 +0000 UTC]
Its looks pretty good. If you embroider the eyes with a lighter color then they would stand out better. I like the other little birdie too. I think I've seen that pattern around.

thanks for the feedback. the link to the other bird pattern is up on the thread above too. i also added a few other things i did including ninja balls--when i searched for ninja ami patterns i got nothing but found your pillows. so i made my own. thought you might want to take a look.

thanks!

thanks a lot sparrow dream! love the tutorials they're nice and detailed...and yet, i'm dense and keep having trouble. lol. Can i ask for additional help?
I thought i knew how to crochet but i keep messing up the "neck" where it's stitch 2 togther, then single crochet 2 in each. every time i do it, i end up with huge gaping holes so big that you can pull the stuffing out with your bare hands. I know i'm doing the stitch two together correctly but i think i'm messing up the single crochet in each? i dunno. is it just me?
any help you could provide would be much appreciated.
thanks!

I had that problem too when I first started making amigurumi. When I decrease I have to make it really tight. Sometimes if you get a smaller crochet hook you can get it tighter.

Where do you get safety eyes? i cant find them at the stores i go to.
π: 0 β©: 1
Sparrow-dream In reply to lilisys [2008-01-24 22:10:47 +0000 UTC]
I found them at Joann's fabrics, but only the brown ones. They eyes are usually next to the googly eye section or where the sequins are. When ever I see the black ones I stock up on them. I think hobby stores would carry safety eyes.
You can buy the eyes off the internet. They aren't that expensive...I don't think. Before I found the safety eyes I used pony beads or sewed eyes with yarn. My older amigurumi don't have safety eyes. Good luck wtih finding them.

OMG!!
I've been making Amigurumi lately (just started x3). I kinda suck but everything keeps insisting I do these super BIG and hard ones T_T.
Thank you loads for this birdy :]! Cute, and finally...not too big.

Sparrow-dream In reply to C3zu [2007-11-29 06:56:32 +0000 UTC]
The chicken is less than 3 in tall so it should be a quick project. I don't really like making big projects because I give up on them.

Oh! That's so cute!!
You know, i've never learned what the abreviations in crochet patterns meant untill now, which has been a major pain, but has meant i've become rather good at making blankets, but nothing much else
I'm gonna make one of these now!! yay

Sparrow-dream In reply to SioniWinwns [2007-11-28 22:36:18 +0000 UTC]
Iknow what you mean. When I started crocheting from a pattern I bought a book thinking that it would have tons of pictures but instead of got some weird nonsense code.

SioniWinwns In reply to Sparrow-dream [2007-11-29 00:03:56 +0000 UTC]
yeah, i've never managed to find a pattern with a 'key' to explain the abreviations, and my mum didnt know the ones i didnt know, so we both gave up

For my frist attempt, can you make a Bunny crochet tutorial ? (as cute as the chiken one and as simple ^^) <3<3<3

Sparrow-dream In reply to ValArt [2007-09-25 17:46:25 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for not replying. If you want to make a bunny there's a pattern on the lion yarn website: [link]
I personally think it looks creepy, but there are some other patterns on other websites. For lion patterns you have to sign in though.

This is wonderful help, thank you so much! I knew how to crochet already, but I didn't know how to read patterns or decrease and increase stitches to make different shapes (I've just done an afghan)
So this is wonderful, thank you so much!
