Hey, I finally got around to finishing up a ref for my latest adopt from Scourgeseer .
Hopefully I haven't messed with her design too much.

Her original description:
Ice/Leaf: Lace - born from an unhappy arranged marriage, her mother's incessant criticism led her to developing an intense hatred for just about everything, especially herself

I haven't been too sure how exactly to go about her in an interesting way yet, but I think I'm starting to finally figure out some story to put her with.

Lace's mother, Gelid, is IceWing nobility. Not quite royal enough to have an actual good shot at becoming a queen, but her family still holds onto the higher ranks of society. From the moment Gelid hatched, it's been nothing but her family telling her what to do.

Gelid absolutely hated her life, but the manners her family hammered into her kept her from completely snapping outside of home. Her one solace was that her family told her that they weren't planning to marry her to any of the terrible IceWing suitors like what they traditionally did.

But oh no. That was just because they had something else planned behind her back the whole time. And she didn't get a single say in it, as usual.

Gelid was arranged to marry some LeafWing noble, named Purslane. (and what a dumb name that was, Gelid's first thought was)
It was to strengthen some sort of alliance between LeafWings and IceWings or something. But worse than just marrying him, Gelid's family had planned for her to actually have dragonets with him. Since he comes from LeafWing royalty with stronger leafspeak, maybe an IceWing/LeafWing hybrid could cultivate special cold-resistant plants, that could be eaten. And with this hybrid being connected to royalty, the Queen could effectively control this food source.

Something like that.

And that's the origins of Lace's parents... meeting? Needless to say they didn't get along at all. Gelid didn't like being around him in the slightest, especially because he always whined about the cold while he was under like, fifty layers of polar bear coats. And Purslane had no interest in Gelid either, particularly because he was a closeted homesexual. But as it was too much trouble to protest to the marriage, he just went with it; ignoring her as much as he could.

Lace wasn't the first egg they had, the first egg didn't hatch as the dragonet died in it. (Purslane was convinced it was the cold that caused it's demise)
Lace came from the second egg, and hatched in the cold empty room. No one was excited to see her.

And from there, Lace grew up in a toxic household with two parents who never wanted to deal with her. She found Purslane less nasty than her mother though, as at least he cared enough to grace her with a name and wasn't constantly highlighting her every little flaw and failure.

Dissapointingly, Lace didn't seem to show any strong powers. Or at least she hasn't figured them out yet, even with her father (kinda) helping. This only made Gelid disdain for Lace stronger. Maybe Lace was ugly, but at least she could have been useful. But nooooo.

There was a third egg after Lace, but that one also didn't make it. At this point, Purslane is tempted to run away, just to be away from Gelid.

mmmm, that's all I'll say for now.
I haven't even really figured everything out. But hey I'm working on it.
Lace is maybe in the same universe/story as Plaguebringer? hm
