Description
Ameriko is ready for ALA and to run around with my other nyo-gals. It’s probably dumb to bring this cosplay to a January con but whatever. (Also this con is right after Christmas so I might be more of a fatty by then. Peeerfect timing lolol) In my defense I have a jacket and it’s California so maybe I’ll get lucky and the sun will be out. :/Pattern for the top is Simplicity 9200
Pleated skirt tutorial here: [link]
I lost my pattern & forgot what the measurements should be but this video saved the day~~
I kind of mixed her two designs. I like the olive green top better than the white so I went with that but I’m using my male!America jacket since it matches the 2nd design. (Though admittedly I would have used it anyway, I don’t need to own a bunch of bomber jackets 8D) I went with the star clips of the second design but wanted them red like the first.

(edit) AH what the heck. I've never gotten spam comments here on DA and tonight I got at least 4 that I had to flag. Anyone else having a problem like that? D:

Hi there! I want to say that your Fem!America cosplay is AMAZING & Inspiring.
So from what I read in the description, you made the main parts of the outfit. If you don't mind, I have a few questions since I plan to cosplay Fem!America in October for Hetalia Day. (and you've inspired me :3 ) Is it hard to sew? I have never touched a sewing machine before and i'm about to start learning.
I plan to make the outfit she wore in the Nyotalia episode, Green skirt, White top, Boots, Bomber jacket. What material would you recommend I use for the top & skirt?
I also plan to cosplay America (Alfred) in the future, I'm probably going to have to buy it from ebay to get the needed bomber jacket, so how would I know which is best quality?
I'm sorry if this is too much & I won't be offended if you dont reply(Some cosplayers won't reply )
Anyways I hope you have a wonderful day & an amazing 4th of July

Thanks so much!
Yes I made all the green parts.
1) It's not super hard to sew but at the same time, I would suggest starting with something a little easier? Pleated skirts can be annoying. The top isn't too bad though. I don't want to be discouraging though! I just know it took a while for me to really work up to learning how to make a pleated skirt. But I also think if you really put your mind to something and have patience, you can do just about anything. xD It's important to practice sewing so you really get the hang of it. It's possible you can also find a green pleated skirt online if you don't know how to sew it.
2) If I was doing the white top version, honestly I'd find a white blouse and cut it short but leave to long ends in the front so you can tie them together like she does. The skirt I used a polyester suiting fabric that I found at Jo-Ann. It's heavy enough to keep the shape of the pleats nicely and looks sort of like military uniform fabric.
3) When it comes to shopping on eBay a lot of the time you just have to trust the seller when it comes to quality and hope that they are telling the truth in their description! I got lucky and found one that was a good price and in good shape. Many bomber jackets can be very expensive so just keep shopping around till you find a good one in your price range. (And that fits!)
It's fine! I'm actually really bad about checking deviantART messages these days so I'm glad I checked today. xD;;
Good luck and same to you!

if you dont mind me asking did you just fold the top or did you cut and hem it Im having a hard time figuring out the top for her (of all things)

The pattern I used was actually a cropped top so that's just how it looked. You can take a regular shirt and cut it and hem it as well.

Spwinkles In reply to cutie-bee-kitty [2012-09-17 00:29:36 +0000 UTC]
I found it on eBay!
You can check there, or amazon.com or maybe even local thrift stores. New jackets can be very expensive, which is why its better to find a used one. I suppose you can always make your own but that would be up to you.

Are your eyes naturally blue or are they contacts? They are just stunning! You fit Ameriko so well!
If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the jacket? Or did you make it yourself?

Contacts! I have super dark brown eyes, actually. xD
I've been using this brand of contacts (Acuvue Opaques in sapphire blue) for YEARS since they really pop in photos.
I found this jacket on eBay two years back~

I saw you were selling this costume online, are you still or did someone buy it? (I wouldn't be suprised, its amazing!) If that's so, then what material did you use to make it, cause I've looked everywhere for a decent costume and am at the point of making my own!

Patchminka In reply to Patchminka [2012-07-26 23:35:12 +0000 UTC]
It looks like they sold the costume, so the picture and account were gone. It was on ebay.

Spwinkles In reply to Patchminka [2012-07-26 08:06:23 +0000 UTC]
Oh, nope! I'm not selling this or plan to so that must have been someone else.
But the material I used was some sort of polyester/cotton blend. I got it on sale at Jo-Ann, it's usually more expensive. But it's nice! It's not too heavy or too light. You can probably find it near the suitings fabrics in Jo-Ann if they still carry it or something similar.

Whaaa? D: Oh, that's not good. I really hate when people use other cosplayer pics to sell their things. It's happened to friends of mine before. If you remember the website that would be awesome. Were they using this picture?
No problem, good luck~~
