Thank you!
I'm hoping to get into the habit of having one pencil drawing going on at all times, if only to help with the lag that comes with waiting for successive layers of paint to dry...

Oh, are you a full-time artist? I tried that once, but it never helps with the bills. I just can't work fast enough, you know. How many paintings do you get to finish on a regular basis?

SRaffa In reply to Gyrovagus [2007-09-16 07:11:26 +0000 UTC]
I'm notoriously slow-- it takes me longer and longer to finish a single painting...
I had an ideal set-up work wise as of 2 years ago-- I was part time graphic design to pay the bills and the rest of the time I just painted and hung out in restaurants-- but then the part time job turned full-time, and now I complain constantly about not having time to do anything else... It's a good job, but I never saw my life going down 90 percent of that particular tube. I'm on the look-out for an escape clause.

Hmm, if the sudden career change is just recent, maybe it's a good thing to hang in there and slug it out for as long as you can and see if any lifestyle adjustments can be made.

fantastic detail, toning and composition.
also if you don't mind me asking, whats the difference between graphite pencil and a normal pencil? and wow the different tones are amazing

I don't know!!! I think all pencils are made of graphite now; I think at some point, there were lead pencils, but I think maybe lead is too dangerous a material for people to be dealing with... I'll research this, see what I find out.
Thanks for looking, pal...

What immense pencil work! The detail's very impressive - I love the feathers, just how long did they take you? - and the lighting even more so. I reckon giving the impression of light in a darkened room must be one of the most difficult things to pull off with graphite pencil, and you've done it amazingly here. Loving the pun in the title also! I'm very jealous, as always.

Ah, thanks so much!
This got worked on on-and-off between a couple of oil paintings so, as usual, I'd have a hard time estimating the total hours-- it was one of those projects that helped me through a pretty lousy time in my life though, and I'm always grateful for those ones...

The whisperer in the darkness, the breather of light...
It's so darned tricky handling light in a drawing the way you have here. Bravo, bro
