Ah, the dancing without arm movement-- an acquired taste, to be sure...
Mad as in crazy might be a generational thing-- by this time, it's entirely possible nobody under the age of twenty has ever used the word Mad when they meant Crazy...

It looks so cool when everyone does it right...an acquired skill, too.
I used to be a good riverdancer!
That is entirely possible! I should ask more people tomorrow..and in other states, too...
So do you use the words interchangeably then?

Nah-- I think it was kind of going out of style even when I was a kid-- I had to have someone explain to me why MAD magazine was called that, even though Alfred E. Newman never appeared to be angry [link] ...
I've seen riverdancing when it took my breath away, it was so beautiful-- how long ago did you used to do it?

That's funny!
But hey, I've never realized that before..I never really thought about what the name meant..so I guess that makes two of us in a way!
A long time ago! I must've been 9 or 10 when I stopped taking lessons (when I moved to the US). I used to be good at playing the recorder, too.. this is a sad, sad conversation!

Sadder, if we get into the list of things I used to be good at...
Do you think you could pick up riverdancing again, Natalie?

Like what? Sorry to have to continue the sad conversation, but once again I'm CURIOUS!
I would like to! Do you think they offer classes in Portugal or India?

I don't know-- I rode horses, I did play some tennis, I've skied, I'd go dancing-- I dunno.
Riverdancing In India might end up being the title of your first novel, you know...

That sounds absurdly enthralling!
You rode horses? So cool..why?
What type of dancing? (I've always had a fascination for all things related to dancing)
I used to be really good at chess, too... then I discovered bikes!

Spaz-dancing to pop music in benevolent American gymnasiums...
Rode horses because there's a big horse culture in Denver; any Colorado kid eventually gets up on one, sister. I used to ride bikes!

Almost anything that's spastic is awesome!
My friend once did a research paper where she "proved" that shorter people are more spastic than taller people. I take it as a compliment
Really?! How long did you ride horses for?
Have you ever milked a cow? I aim to do that sometime in my life.
Bikes are the epitome of freedom!

I considered buying a bike over the summertime; stuck with walking for now...
Never milked a cow, but my mom did-- she was born in Funk, Nebraska! True!
I rode horses over the space of one year, I would guess...

You must be really healthy!
Last Sunday, my friend and I were supervisors for a river cleanup, so as we were heading back to the meeting place and herding everyone back, we see this kid riding a bicycle and his friend behind him carrying a soccer ball. Turns out that they had actually found these things when they were picking up trash! The bike wasn't even rusty at all--it was in perfect working condition...and the soccer ball was as good as new, too!
My friend and I? We found an empty wine bottle and a hub cap.
No way! I wonder why they named it that...
Now would you like to ride horses again someday?

What a good question-- I dunno, Natalie; maybe! Have you ever been up on a horse?

You should! Right after you finish writing that book, publishing that theory, and bowling.
Once or twice..at a fair in England. Doesn't really count, I think, because it was only me sitting on a horse while a person led it around a 25' X 25' square.

How true!
Even though I hate the ways and the extent to which they would enforce discipline, I'm worried that I'm going to do something similar with my own kids subconsciously, you know, like an after-effect of my own upbringing.
