Description A little mini tutorial. This goes along with pretty much any type of airbrush, or brush with opacity pressure sensitivity. The brush I used was from my pack,

Basically, when you want to give your shading and blending a smeared painted look, this is a good way to get it

This is a little trick I learned in Graphic Arts that I use in almost anything I don't cell shade.

its like... cell shading is usually hard edges? like in anime?
Where as soft shading would be most other things XD

I try to absorb everything I can grab. I stare at tutorials and real life things for ages, trying to memorize lines, proportions and stuff. That light and shadow thing ... I find it hard, especially with a touch pad and no ref at all ...

It's still hard work and sometimes there are days when you seem to make no progress at all (*sigh*).

That, exactly is the point where you shouldn't give up I guess. It's like ... with everything. The first few days you make fast progress, then, seemingly, nothing happens. Or it's even getting worse again. Any suggestions what I could try next for practice? Trying to draw the same thing over and over again (like I originally planned) until it looks like it's supposed to look or - like during the last few days - just try random stuff?

Everyone hits blocks eventually you get a breakthrough. Did you ever try watching speedpaints on youtube? very helpful

Once, it rendered me speechless. I don't think I will ever be able to create something that beautiful. See, I haven't tried to draw for years, just started to practice again some days ago, after a few people convinced me that everyone can learn it. Any ideas how to disable a certain part of my brain, by the way? It's easier when I just scribble (after I studied tutorials and real life people and items) and don't think of how it might look like ...

Try listening to music or draw while your watching tv? That works for me and since you only recently picked it back up, all i can say is start with realism, draw from life, use stock to sketch from (if the artist is ok with it). It will help you.

Thanks, most of it I tried already ... Never tried listening to music while practicing drawing. Worked with writing, though. Sometimes at least.
