Part One of a collab between *kmdigital and myself, the brief for me was quite wide open, I do the terragen scene and he do the post processing..."Something more mystical, magical... dreamy. Awesome use of lighting, like if the theme were to be... "Dream Lights" or something. Making use of as many landscape features as possible.. sort of making a utopian dream scene."
I don't know too much about what his work on this will be, but I do know a 3D city type scene, perhaps a tower or something, a little Lord of the Rings type scene perhaps. I can tell you he is a great graphics artist so I am looking forward to the results eagerly, go check him out.

hehe, funny, I just saw Part Two of this collab in the fav recommendations of *tigaer 's and ~hypnotic 's "Fluid Gold" , and then I clicked the link to this piece and looked at the title... "what? Nov 27? This didn't show up in my devwatch!" then I realized it was from 2002

This is definitely one of the most realistic renders I've ever seen. The grass texture and water work very well, though the rays are a bit overwhelming.

Even though the sun light might be a bit bright in the sky, I really like this scene. The lighting and shading really turn this into a magical setting. And the texturing is just flawless. I really can't wait to see what the final colab piece is going to be like. You already did an awsome job on this

terragen's mapped grass always looks like moss over clay to me, maybe it is coz the greens are not convincin enuff, or the lighting is not good enough.
Dude i suggest you study more how light works one landscapes in the real life. You'll notice that with such poweful sun (like the one here) and it being so high you wouldn't have such dark shadows. In some places u see a big contrast between shadows and lit areas caused by the intensity falloff.
Search in the 3d forum for the "google dot come and lighting" thread, it has a very nice link that show the basic of lights. Such as fill lights coz this scene needs a few fill lights.

Already it has a fantasy like atmosphere to it. I like the way you laid out the mountains and the scenery. The grass texture is very nice and the lights of course set the mood. I'm very eager to see how this render with kmdigital's touches comes out

Ok lets see....where to start
wonderfull sky in this, top pts in it. Beautiful sunrays. I think u could increase the length of the suns reflection, but narrow it down a slight bit and less reflectivness, it might make it look more natural
ok the texures in this is great, so i see u have learned to hide ur smooth side textures so i can't assualt u about it eh? , from what i can make out they look good, especially the shoreline

I'm shocked, this is so perfect. It's quite a simple image in what concerns composition, but the realism and smoothness just make it so rich... I love the sun rays. A very relaxing scene... And I need to relax lately, so yeah this goes to my favs
