I had a lot of fun with this design, despite parts of the finished design being unsatisfactory at best. I think it captures the look and feel of the VFs in Macross, and also has a certain simplicity to it which makes it a perfect candidate for animation.

The two greatest achievements to come out of this project are my learning (or relearning in some cases) how to use Photoshop, and designing another transforming fighter that is the central figure in a manga that I am currently finishing. I think both the process and the failures of this VF-5 design helped bring success in the next design.

If I had more time, I'd like to complete a one or two page mini-manga of the VF-5 in action. Alas...
