*EDIT*
THIS IS IMPORTANT
SIMPLY SPRAY FABRIC PAINT IS A LIE!! ALL LIES! I WASH THE HOODIE AFTER 3 @#$@% MONTHS OF DRYING AND THE BLACK IS NOW A GRAY!! UNACCEPTABLE !!
FFFTTTTTT i can fix it in my pictures in photoshop but it won't be the same
i need better fabric paint to fix it apparently
SO THIS TUTORIAL IS NOW VOID
*END EDIT*
Part two of my tutorial showing the process of how I painted a white hoodie to look like Mr. Snippy's jacket from the webcomic Romantically Apocalyptic by `alexiuss
I just knew after making it and posting pictures everyone would ask where I got it or how i made it xD.
A photo-shoot will now commence
Part one
FAQ's:
Q: Does simply spray really not fade like they say?
A: OF COURSE IT DOES FADE, the spray fabric paint never
works, and i'm an idiot for using it xD
Q: SO WAIT WHAT HAPPENED??
A: After a 3 months of drying and setting, i washed the
hoodie once and the black changed to a gray
don't use simply spray is all i can say... still don't know what
to use to fix it yet...
Q: Where can I find your pattern for the hoodie?
A: Here! [link]
Q: Can I use this tutorial? I want to use it to help me cosplay Snippy!
A: Sure! that's what it is here for xD just do not re-post this tutorial anywhere else
without my permission please.
Q: Where can I get simply spray?
A: Well here is their webpage [link]
and the have a list of retailers where they sell their paints here [link] It seems
that they only list where you can get it in the U.S.
Q: How much is simply spray?
A:
Q: How many cans did you use?
A: 6
Q: I'm confused/nervous about how to use this paint! ;-;
A: watch one of their videos of how to paint with simply spray
and they have some general tips on their webpage [link]
Q: Can I use spray paint instead?
A: UHhhhh, I wouldn't suggest spray paint at all, it dries kinda stiff and
smells really bad unlike simply spray which dries soft and doesn't have a smell!
Q: Where did you get the hoodie? Did you make that to?
A: No I didn't make it xD, I got it at sears, it was only $20, but you can buy a
similar hoodie pretty much anywhere! and perhaps for cheaper!
Q: Did you ever use that white masking tape?
A: No I didn't, the blue tape was much better cause it was thicker, I'm pretty
sure you could use the white kind if you don't have painters tape.
Q: Who is Mr. Snippy?/ Where can I find this webcomic?
A: `alexiuss First episode: [link]
have another question? leave a comment!
and I'd love to see what people make after reading this tutorial!

Question, I used those tiny glass bottles of fabric paint on a hoodie. After it dried, it simply cracked. Do I do anything to it or is it simply because spray would be better?

Some fabric paints do not react well with certain fabric surfaces or are just bad quality and not doing the job. Using the wrong paint can cause stiffness, fading, and cracking. The paint does not necessarily need to be spray fabric paint, it just needs to be high quality fabric paint in order to last and be washable.
Just don't use simply spray as shown in this tutorial because it does dry soft, but it fades and isn't waterproof.
I now use a jacket that already has a similar design to snippy's jacket so I haven't had a need to find a more suitable fabric paint.
I found this page helpful when looking for answers about better fabric paints and techniques you can use to improve it's appearance and durability.
[link]
and these are some examples of higher quality paints [link] but I can't say from experience which brand is the best so you'll have to some research and test them out on scrap pieces of fabric or in small hidden areas of the clothing you want to paint.
Hope this somewhat helps!

thank you!
lol and I have stopped looking because I found a jacket I could use from a friend. That doesn't mean there isn't any out there that don't fade. Someone here told me that painted fabric paint is a more permanent solution like here [link]
hope that helps if you are interested in making your own or what not

Huh thats interesting. My friend just made me a shirt with a painted design on it- the shirt is comfortable and I have washed it many times and the color design hasn't faded or chipped. She says she just used acrylic paint
thanks so much for the link!

Wow! really? I thought with acrylic it would dry to plastic-y and would chip because acrylic is after all a plastic. Did she dilute it with water first maybe?
No probs!

Yah I thought so too- but it really is pretty good. She used just enough to have a solid color but not so much that its all stiff and stuff. I asked her and she said no so I dunno but I do know that whatever she did it it worked XD77

I'm wondering if that would work to fix my faded snippy hoodie. I'm afraid that the areas are too large and I'll ruin the fabric.

I dont know its possible Hmmm I dunno but you can ask her directly for advice here
her and I do lots of projects together. I dont know if you watch baman and piderman but just recently I made an over 5 foot tall stuffed animal of pumkin XD that girl is going to probably help me paint acrylic circles on his shoes so shes the one to ask

I say thank you! I plan on making for myself in the near future.
However, I have to point out that you made the whole hood black, instead of half of it. Just a detail I managed to catch.

your welcome, good luck!
and yes, I mentioned I had done that because the hoodie I had did not have
a way to fold it in half without wrinkles and I had gotten paint on the white
half so just was like... screw that and painted the whole hood black.

your welcome!
the mask, i do not know, we've had it forever, you can get one at any hardware store i think
the goggles are wielding goggles i bought online in sears! (the store doesn't hold them where i live because it isn't a popular item)
then i painted them with acrylics to make them black/white
hope this helps!

On the simply spray can, the instructions said to wait 72 hours before washing to prevent any fading
Aka 3 days
I've waited a week and it's perfect
