Description Since I promised to finish her wings first, here's what we've been working on for the last 3 days (on & off, anyways - there was a Rodeo somewhere in there...).

Primary/Secondary feathers & harness only - cover-feathers are on the way. Her gloves are recycled band gloves, and have worked well so far~

What is the price if they are for sale?

They are not for sale at the moment, but if I ever opened for commissions they'd probably be in the $1,000+ range, from materials and amount of time/effort in construction. Hence the tutorial, so that anyone with the desire to make their own can do so! It's a lot of work, but I think the results are worth it~

Questions are welcome~

And sort of - paint is used as the "glue" that keeps the fabric together - the whole process is detailed here fav.me/d2wi2xh

I would love to have a black pair of wings... like big raven wings or something........^_^ Or rainbow wings!! XD

Sunnybrook1 In reply to Bast-Incarnation [2011-03-02 00:10:03 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like - if you're interested in commissioning a pair from me, shoot me a note. I should be opening in the next few months & there's already a list forming...

Bast-Incarnation In reply to Sunnybrook1 [2011-03-02 23:36:19 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...maybe. I dont really have the money right now, but if they're not too pricey I might think about it. =3

Sunnybrook1 In reply to Bast-Incarnation [2011-03-04 05:00:57 +0000 UTC]

Not sure, is a couple hundred dollars qualify as "too pricey"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Sharpe19 In reply to Sunnybrook1 [2013-08-28 03:37:02 +0000 UTC]

A couple hundred to be honest is rather cheap. If I ever do an avian and you are still doing wing commissions, I'm certainly going to be contacting you for the job <3

Sunnybrook1 In reply to Sharpe19 [2013-09-19 02:40:52 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see what you mean...well I'll be doing more research & price comparisons before opening commissions. Thanks for the bit of confidence|

lol Just a little

Sunnybrook1 In reply to Bast-Incarnation [2011-03-04 22:28:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, the materials all add up to between $80 - $100, but they're so time-intensive...buying the materials is the easy part! Ah well, we gotta do what we gotta do~

Bast-Incarnation In reply to Sunnybrook1 [2011-03-05 20:03:42 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes yes, I understand.
Ya, thats a little pricey for me thought. hehe

doganie [2011-01-04 05:15:16 +0000 UTC]

I just had an idea, and by no means am I telling you what to do or anything like that, I just want to help
Would it be better if you used arm-length gloves and sewed the elastic to it? Then there wouldn't be as much of a gap between the arm and the feathers as I noticed in other updates. Even with the arm coverings, in my opinion, they still kind of look funny (but still amazingly awesome too! )
Just a thought, I have no idea if it would work, though I might try it when I find time to make my own pair

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Bast-Incarnation In reply to doganie [2011-03-01 23:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... thats a great idea actually. Sounds a ton easier too.
Im sure there would be a few different ways to make these. Whichever way works best for you I guess.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

doganie In reply to Bast-Incarnation [2011-03-02 00:08:41 +0000 UTC]

It would definitely change how they worked, and you would have to make sure the sleeve didn't bunch up and stuff, but it would make it a lot easier to make the feathers look like they are part of the arm. I would experiment, but I'm not sure I have the time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bast-Incarnation In reply to doganie [2011-03-02 23:27:23 +0000 UTC]

lmao ya... me either.
But I would think just attaching some wings to an armband and then making like a chris cross on your back so you dont have to attach strings to your pants. I dunno... Im just thinking out-loud. lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

doganie In reply to Bast-Incarnation [2011-03-03 02:07:54 +0000 UTC]

yeah, too bad we can't see if these ideas would work before we tried them out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bast-Incarnation In reply to doganie [2011-03-03 03:18:29 +0000 UTC]

lmao Ya, thats ok. ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Sunnybrook1 In reply to doganie [2011-01-04 06:26:35 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, I love ideas~

And the reason for the elastic is to keep the secondary feathers spaced correctly when opening/closing the wings. Flight feathers (usually) connect into a birds bone, but are still able to flex to some degree. I haven't figured out a way to imitate that on an arm/sleeve contraption, but until I do my current set up works alright.

Thanks for the input!

Would you be wiling to custom make a pair similar to these? I wear a Seahawks game day outfit that would look amazing if I could get these wings in a bright green and blue. How much would you want to make them? Or could you send me the list of supplies I will need, or more importantly where to find the supplies please.

how much does it cost all together to make both wings?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sunnybrook1 In reply to Stitchy-Face [2010-09-23 05:07:00 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I'm still in the process of adding it all up, but they use up many yards of fabric, heavy-gauge wire, LOTS of alligator clips, elastic, yards of harness-straps, 3-4 feet of latex tubing......gah, just check my tutorials for a complete-ish list (I'll have to compile an overall list when I finish... ) and go window-shopping for prices~
