So this will be the continuing work in progress until I finish the entire horse - so as not to spam everyone's messages. I did not want to copy over the other one as a few people have found the comments and state helpful.
Which I very much appreciate being able to give back what I can to the community.I had to make up the ears as in the reference photo his ears were laying down . So if they look funny to you let me know. All critique is highly appreciated.
I rotated the ears, and darkened the wrinkles on the muzzle to make them less noticable as well as work on the neck. I thickened up the one leg a bit and put it on a darker temp background(it looks better lol).
Corel Painter Essentials, Genius tablet. Referenced from my own horse and picture. 6ish hours so far.

I.. am in utter shock and awe. I was just sitting here looking at various paintings of horses and noticed none of them had any real looking texture for the hair... and then here I am and I'm just stunned! Very good. The ears look great! The only thing that looks funny to me (other than the back areas that haven't been worked on as much) is the front right leg, where it looks... I don't know how to describe it other than "Slightly cut and pasteish" around the outside of the knee.

Yes you are completely correct, it is too sharp of a change, I need to blend it in a bit - but I figured I needed the background finished before I could do anything. Anyway I became so discouraged with this I have put it on hold for a while.

I think it would help to make that back leg less blured. I mean i don't know what you have i mind but I don't think it needs to be that blury.
It look realy good did you do it on the computer or by hand?

Its not completed at all - so the back end has just been roughed in. This is done with Corel Essentials and a pen and tablet - by hand on the computer.

lol It still looks like such a big neck/head. I'm so used to my big warmbloods or compact Thoroughbreds haha! The "tiny" leg looks much better, I'm just not used to seeing the stockiness of a QH

Yeah my guy was a stocky little welsh/QH cross. Though his shoulder was a little light for his backend - which is probably why I favour the 3/4 front view pictures lol.
I still have to do some adjustments - I too agree the head looks rather large but I was going to reserve my final adjustments for when it was completed - some of what we see may be due to the back end not being done. Or may not, we will see.
