Description
Some tips and tricks in general:- put a paper under your drawing hand, so you don’t smudge anything
- use a reference that is as large and detailed as possible (for example in this case: 2500 X 1600 pixel)
- take your time trying out brands and pencils (I prefer Faber Castell)
So, this is my promised skin tutorial. To be honest it was weird to do, because I’ve never paid much attention at how I draw. Analyzing my steps was pretty interesting.
Most of my pictures aren’t that detailed like you can see here. I just did it to have a good example for my tutorial. How many details you put into the skin depends mostly on your reference.
Please be also aware that this is just my way of doing it. It can be right for you, too, but maybe for you a different way works better.
As always, if you have any further questions feel free to ask
This is a tutorial for my picture Sam Worthington .

No, aside from school I've never learned how to draw. I've just tried things out I also don't work as an artist, but as a librarian.

Hmmmmm to me what you did there adding all those points with the tortillion made perfect sense, it adds depth and texture without worrying about paper damage from the pencil's point. I also liked that you used very few pencils to make this, proving that you don't really need to rely on a full set of pencils to do something wonderful

Thank you so much Using a tortillon this way is certainly uncommon, but I guess as long as it works it should be alright

I do something similar, but with a dirty tissue, since I don't have a tortillion xd
You have awesome technique, don't let however weird it seems to others bother you

What kind of paper did you use? Which brand?

Just ordinary printer paper. I prefer the heavier one (100 g/m2)

Great job with the tutorial!, it's awesome and very easy to understand. I think many people will learn a lot with it, me included
( I have to buy one of these eraser pencils like the one you have
)
btw, as you know, I don't use to draw with pencils, but I also prefer the Faber Castell ones, they are great

I find a black and white reference harder to work with lol but this tutorial is really good thanks. Do you print your reference out or do you have it on a laptop in front of you?
