Description By request, a wax cut tutorial- which strikes me as funny that it's my first tutorial, since I don't think myself super wonderful at waxforms. I'm better than it looks like in the images, though- my camera's not the best. Regardless, it gets the point across.

Time: For the makeup, 10-15 minutes. Putting together the tutorial took considerably longer. XD
Medium: Wax + Makeup.

A mixture of liquid latex and wax actually works the best for the 'Glasgow smile' Joker face.

what tone are you using in this?
cause i found some to buy online for like $1.99 to $2.00 and they have FAIR to DARKEST and such....
and the stuff your using in this looks like my skin tone
but i dont know what its called cause i cant see the name.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sweetgreychaos In reply to CH1Z [2009-03-01 23:16:33 +0000 UTC]

I always get the fairest option possible- it's rarely light enough for my skin, but that can be modified without too much trouble. I've used this on folks who it was practically their EXACT tone before- it's so nice when that's the case.

I'd go with 'Fair', if I were you. Are you looking at Ben Nye?

CH1Z In reply to sweetgreychaos [2009-03-01 23:28:10 +0000 UTC]

yes
i made sure it was Ben Bye Brand.
so FAIR is the best huh?
then ill be sure to order that one then.

cool, now I know how the make up artists do it, great for next halloween....lol, where's a good place to get the wax you used?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sweetgreychaos In reply to ScaleBound [2009-01-01 17:44:28 +0000 UTC]

I bought my wax online, through a Ben Nye supplier. ^_^ If you have a good costume shop near you (which is unlikely- I've rarely found good ones around me...) it'd be there as well.

Wow! This is really cool! Does this stuff stand up well to movement? Like, say, if it's on your hand and you flex you fingers alot, does it crack or stretch with the skin? Oh, and what type of blood do you use? It doesn't really say on there. You're awesome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sweetgreychaos In reply to goddessOFtheSUN [2008-09-16 21:19:15 +0000 UTC]

It does stand up to movement rather well for the first few hours it's on- especially if you treat it with a little vaseline/makeup remover to keep it a little moist. Wax doesn't especially 'dry out' so it doesn't crack without some effort. It moves/gets ruined the easiest when you have it on an area that bends more often (or stretches). I've kept a wax cut on my forehead utterly pristine for hours, whereas one on my cheek (stretching) needed repaired more frequently.

For the images in this tutorial, I used Ben Nye brand blood, and a cheapo Halloween makeup kit 'bloody scab'... but recently I've been making my own blood. I find that most fake bloods work well enough- I just like mine a little thicker, so I've been making my own!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial!

Wow, that's so cool how you start off with a bit of wax and end up with a huge cut in the middle of your hand!

And I love it -- "Viola! You're injured!"
