Description i wanna free fall out into nothing;
gonna leave this world for awhile
-[link]

I don't think I'm afraid of great heights so much as the possibility of falling from them.

this was not a vent piece, but definitely based on places I've been before.

This whole "where is my sign really?" thing is not new - it's called "sidereal" and has been around for a long time now. I came across a book years ago [it must be 40 years old by now, and I came across it 20 years ago] that listed the sidereal dates and this is the same thing. [link ]

Not that I see myself any more Virgo than I see myself Libra [neither really apply to me].

Haha, I know, I linked to an article about it. *points* I mentioned it in the description because I didn't want people giving me crap about it. "omg didn't you hear it changed so what sign are you NOW" kind of thing. Even before I knew the facts, I wasn't ready to lose any sleep over it.

The "new" constellation is not new, it has always been there. and according to a chart one of my dorm mates has, it can barely even be considered in the path of the sun, and its on top of Scorpio anyway.

I dunno, I am still going to consider myself a Taurus, I don't care what the astronomers say xD

This is a gorgeous piece by the way, great posing :3 I like the soft shading

[link] My friend linked me to this article that explains everything really clearly and well. It *may be* applicable if you follow the sidereal zodiac, but if you did, you wouldn't be the sign that you 'are' in the first place anyway. The tropical zodiac follows the seasons, not the actual constellations' movement. C: So nothing's changed. I could have told you that, I don't feel the least bit more bullish than I did the other day. I could never be a Taury, don't have the attention span xD

Thank you much! ♥ she's fun to draw so I've just been doing so a lot.

I don't really read up on the zodiac a whole lot beyond "oh, I'm a Taurus!" xD But according to my dorm mates, I fit the "Taurus" definition quite well xD *shrug!* But from what I gather, I do not think I fit with.. I think Aeries was the one I was "changed" to? ..very well at all. Ehh.. like I said, I don't really put a whole lot of stock into it, to me its just different times of the year and neat constellations and zodiac signs based on those constellations that I get to tell people when they first meet me! xD

She does look like a lot of fun to draw :3 I think I might doodle her on Monday if I get my still life painting and color pallet finished tomorrow.. *plot*

It's cool, I didn't know or care really anything about it until fairly recently in my life when I started researching out of curiosity (and also started talking about it more often with a rl friend who's always been interested). What I found out was pretty amazing - I've been through a lot of my life not completely understanding myself; I thought I did but there was always the vague feeling of something else I wasn't getting, and at one point I thought I might have multiple personalities or something else wrong with me and got really freaked out by that. Reading an in-depth explanation of the Gemini personality was like seeing a beam of light shine on my soul: suddenly everything just made sense, and looking back on the odd stuff I used to do when I was a kid it all fit in too. It's difficult to describe without going into too much lengthy detail, but suffice to say it convinced me they must be doing something right. Since then, I've never felt crazy and that vague fear has never come back.

I still don't put a lot of stock into the prediction stuff (especially the vague bullshit you get in newspapers and magazines, though I do look at those just for lulz), but as far as the personality stuff goes, based on my personal experience, I gotta say I think there's something to it at least, and I'm always curious to see if others have had similar experiences to me. Just to clarify though I don't use it as a textbook way to judge people, especially those I don't know well; I think that's stupid because everybody is different and complex and has been through different life experiences - and I generally ignore the compatibility stuff for the same reasons. But for people that I already know well and have had long relationships with before I knew about all this (like my family), it can be - and has been - very interesting to compare and contrast.

Aah! Not that many people have really drawn her yet and I'd be thrilled if you did Thanks for the thought, love, whether you actually end up doing it or not. Just makes me happy to know that people think she's drawable

You're right, it is interesting to try and see how well they really do fit with your personality, as well as with others you're close to. But I definitely agree with you on not using it as a "textbook guide". I know I, myself, have several differences to my sign. An example being Taurus do everything to maintain the status quo and don't like change, but I don't think I follow any kind of 'status quo' (I'm kinda all over the place - friendly with everyone, don't stick with just one click, but I tend to keep to myself most of the time..etc), and every time change has come into my life (gaining a boyfriend after being single my whole life, moving away from home to live in a dorm, etc) I have never been scared of the change and they usually brought good things into my life.

And I'll definitely be drawing her :3

Yep, there are always going to be differences between people and there's no two ways about it. Buuut I'm also born near the cusp of Cancer and the stuff that isn't 'classically' Gemini about me is usually pretty crabby in nature. xD When it's good, I'm carefree and compassionate; when it isn't, I'm emotional, self-deprecating and neurotic - not so fun heh. But what helps is that I now have names and faces for the problems. I didn't really need it to know who I was, as some might imply I'm saying, but it helped me define and sort out the tangle a bit.

♥!

I love this piece though, ha ha. It's so peaceful, and resigned to her fate.

Haha yeah, I was like "Me a Taurus..? PFFFFFTTHAHAHAHAHAHAHno". My sign isn't something I've grown up with -- I knew what it was but most brief descriptions of gemini are like "you are a superficial party person yay" which didn't fit me at all so I never really paid much attention. A few years ago though I happened to just start looking some more in-depth stuff up, and was amazed at how much it explained. So yeah it's going to take a lot more than that to convince me my sign doesn't suit me perfectly.
Thank you, that's what I was going for

seireiofhope In reply to swift-whippet [2011-01-15 19:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Lol! That was my exact reaction too. I fit scorpio like a glove, how can you tell me that I am now a Libra. Just because we are both water signs doesn't mean it's just going to work >.<
Well, I am glad that is what I got out of it then, ha ha.

swift-whippet In reply to seireiofhope [2011-01-16 01:07:47 +0000 UTC]

Well Libra is an air sign (no two of the same element are side by side ever) but if you suddenly told me I was an Aquarius or Libra that was never going to fly either.

Yeah, definitely - it's at the very core of me.
In any case, here's a more in-depth explanation about why everyone was squawking about nothing: [link] hah! Guess the sensationalist media were bored and decided to dig up something random and old to make drama about.

seireiofhope In reply to swift-whippet [2011-01-17 07:44:37 +0000 UTC]

So hey! We are still the same signs we were before?
Oh gosh, I wish they would just let it be, and pretend that some planet isn't really a planet instead...like Pluto

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to seireiofhope [2011-01-17 07:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, nothing's changed. Just some people trying to make drama by spreading misinformation. Not about the position of the constellations, but in how it relates to astrology as most people understand it. A little research and maybe a short interview or two before they rushed that to print would have solved that, but eh, people.
So you guys don't really have a ruling planet anymore, just a ruling dwarf? D:

seireiofhope In reply to swift-whippet [2011-01-17 08:10:06 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha, yup! All the planets will now become a ruling dwarf planet, and all the dwarf planets will become poodles XD

I really love this creature, Swifty, and I wish I had the opportunity to meet one! She seems so fragile and graceful. Reminds me of a quetzal, somehow, with her long limbs like the birds' long feathers. [link]

Also, the style you chose for this is wonderful. The blue outline lends a really soft feel to the whole piece.
That article made my jaw drop. I don't know, something about shifting around the zodiac was soul-tremoring. Not because I'm 'technically' switching signs (or rather, moving to one cusp rather than another) but because it's such an ingrained part of culture. It's almost like someone discovering that what we call December should actually be January.

swift-whippet In reply to bardicsidhe [2011-01-15 03:10:17 +0000 UTC]

Eee, thank you Scylla. ♥ that was kind of what I was trying to get across in her design, so hoorah. And I didn't think of quetzals actually (the base for Switch was a collared kingfisher [link] ) but they're such beautiful little birds!! I never knew there were so many species of quetzal though, amazing. o: I've also been experimenting with different-coloured outlines in my digital stuff lately, and I wanted to try one for Switch that was something other than her usual teal, so thanks for noticing and approving

Yeah, I definitely understand feeling lost and at sea because something is pushing evidence in your face that contradicts something that's always been with you. not sure if you're on facebook (or if you are, whether your friends made a commotion about it), but yesterday I woke up to an entire newsfeed of statuses squawking about the apparent sign change. Fortunately I quickly found the other article stating that it really didn't make any difference (and proceeded to post that with a "the sky ain't falling, people" tacked on), but even so, to me there never was any question. I'm way too twitchy to be a Taurus. xD

NY is cool, I'm settled enough and have lots of good friends so that I don't get crippling homesickness anymore, but it feels good to visit my family after two years of being stranded there! nice to have you stop by and it's good to see you're still drawing too

I'm thinking about applying into NAFA or LaSelle. I have a crush on LaSelle's campus, I swear. Otherwise, I'm good. c:
It's great to hear that you're doing well! (Though, I'm dying to get out of Singapore hee hee)

Any advice before I try for an Art School? :/ (I'm scared I'll get eaten alive there)

Ick - I'm sorry D: it's been so long since that time for me, though, and I can tell you it definitely looks smaller from where I am now. don't fret too much, just try to go with the flow and see what you can do with what you have (and pray of course). all the best.
Yeah - it's nice and to my mind beneficial to experience life from a different point of view, and for me at least it's just made me appreciate my home even more deeply than before. Definitely go for an exchange program or something if you get a chance to.

don't be intimidated if you're sure art/design is what you want to do - you're talented and creative and I'm sure if you dedicate yourself you'll do fine. you'd have to talk to people that have gone to either school to get more detailed info there, though.

whatever you decide to do, make sure you do it with your whole heart.
