Omigosh. So many of my favorite dog breeds... all in one picture. o.O; And, it has *language*! The coolness overwhelms all..!

Oy, I totally *adore* Akitas--they're my favorite dog breed, though I'm very fond of Chow Chows, Jindos, Shibas, and other nordic-type Asian breeds as well. Throw in the fact that I'm currently studying Japanese, and have been to Japan, and previously taken Chinese culture and Asian-American studies classes and whatever else, and this picture just wins on SO many levels. ^.^

Total instafave. And, kudos to you on such an awesome piece of art! ^.^

swift-whippet In reply to GeneralStar [2006-06-24 04:37:18 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thank you ^^ I'm thinking of doing another one with a variation on the theme... like costumes and such. Because we are not all the same, dangit. *is Chinese* (and why are the Japanese the only ones with the kewlness factor? WHERE IS THE CHINESE/KOREAN LOVE D

Ahem, apologies. Thanks VERY much :3

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

GeneralStar In reply to swift-whippet [2006-06-24 05:08:33 +0000 UTC]

I know *I* certainly am interested in Chinese and Korean culture and language... I only began studying Japanese because (once upon a time when I was young and naive) I wanted to study animation there. As it is, I had planned on taking Chinese this fall semester in college, but I've already exceeded my unit limits by quite a bit... Someday, though~

I think a variation of this pic, with cultural costumes and whatnot, is a simply smashing idea. And you're quite welcome, because this really is one fab piece of art. ^.^

chillcats [2006-06-11 01:51:31 +0000 UTC]

Okay, first off, I adore your style! And I love the simple background in comparison to the more-detailed dogs. It's absolutely brilliant!

Secondly, I was wondering if you'd mind if I printed this out as 'research' for my art assignment? With credit and such, of course! It's just that I was reading through the comments, and I saw you said something about people thinking Korean, Japanese and Chinese were all the same. I'm basically doing something on generalisations and stereotypes, and this is an absolutely BRILLIANT representation of that :3 (I'm planning on doing something with animals representing certain people, too, so it fits even more!)
I just thought I'd ask first!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

swift-whippet In reply to chillcats [2006-06-11 07:20:44 +0000 UTC]

omg. *falls over* I'm honoured that you'd want to use this! As long as you give credit where it's due, it's perfectly fine with me ^^ Thanks for the compliments!

I love the concept! Great idea Everyone does seem to think the Oriental countries are all the same. Wonder if there the same stereotype with dogs xD. The dogs are so adorable, especially the lovely Jindo in the middle^^

Original-Wolfhusky In reply to ??? [2006-05-29 13:31:19 +0000 UTC]

I think this is excellent! You've captured each breed's standard perfectly...expression and all. Akitas and Jindos are the best! I also wanna thank you for your kind comment and stuff whilst I was going through a little bit of a rough patch. It was really sweet and I appreciate it. Lastly, I haven't forgotten about that forum you showed me. Right now, I've got too much going on to jump into such a large place, but I'm still thinking about joining and stuff slows down. Love!

I have a ChowChow! I love chows! I've never met a Jindo, and I find Akitas to be very intriguing...*has only met one, but she loved her!* And I hate how everyone thinks fluffy, pointed-eared dogs are all the same.

People, a Malamute is NOT a husky, and there IS a differenced between Alaskan and Siberian, and a spitz is NOT a german shepard, and a...*continues on for a while*

Very cute drawing, by the way...^_^; The faces are adorable, and I love the ChowChow's black tongue 8D

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

swift-whippet In reply to cheekychizkit [2006-05-29 08:56:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Although my point was not so much the dogs look alike.. but that Chinese, Japanese and Korean = NOT THE SAME CULTURE. LOL!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

cheekychizkit In reply to swift-whippet [2006-05-29 20:22:05 +0000 UTC]

Well...about the same point, right? xD My bad...

But the point on the whole culture thing is right, too lol *giggles and feels stupid* Buuutttt...the general point is the same. People know a little something about a large group (i.e. the idea of dogs, or Oriental cultures) and don't bother to know much more beyond that, assuming that subtlties don't matter. Granted, I don't know much about Asian cultures, but what I do know is fascinating, and I know if I was part of a culture that was often lumped into a large group like that, I wouldn't appreciate it...

I absolutely loved how you portrayed them differently based on their nationalities or whatever. It's a basic but cute and effective idea.

The chow... harrrr. I agree with you on them being formal and polite. All their expressions fit perfectly to their personalities.

I just love that jindo.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

swift-whippet In reply to lichens [2006-05-27 06:07:25 +0000 UTC]

LOL, I wasn't even thinking about that was the best part xDD Now that you mention it, I do notice that. The Jindo is just chillin'. The Chow is all formally courteous and the Akita is all "OHAYOUGOZAIMASU! KAWAII NEEEE~" that's awesome. I didn't even know I was doing it.

...I want to make them characters ow. Thank you o.o

T_T i cant understand what they are saying, -feelsbad- oh well....... i only know a few words in french oO........ bonjour, au reviour (sp?), le jardin public (park or public garden )...... -pause- ......la gare (train station), le or la pont?(bridge) and a few others, i cant do them accents like รด and i cant spell them xD.... oh yeah um le cave (cellar), le balcon (balcony), le jardin (garden). ill remember the others later

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

swift-whippet In reply to delicatefox [2006-05-27 03:31:50 +0000 UTC]

Um, that's okay, Fox. I'm not asking you to understand.. I translate all of them in the description. They're all saying 'hello' in Chinese, Korean and Japanese. My point is that the three different scripts look different from each other.

And there's no need to give me all your French! I believe you.
