Description This was requested by

Dugald Drummond's first post was that of Locomotive Superintendent of the North British Railway. From 1880 to 1884, 30 of these small, 4-4-0 tank engines were built by Cowlairs works and were used on branch line A total of thirty locomotives were built in five batches between 1880 and 1884. They were used on suburban services around Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as branch lines and some mainline stopping services. Four were fitted with cowcatchers for use on the Fraserburgh to St. Combs branch line. They were rebuilt between 1908 and 1911 by Reid with boilers used on Drummond's J82s, but despite having new boilers they were withdrawn starting at Grouping and the last three were gone by 1933. None are preserved today.
