Description You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this file, as it's a PDF. You can download it here .

Please, if you or Download, please leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Here is a tutorial that I've meant to do for a while now, but really pushed to have finished before school started.

This is basically how I draft my kimono/yukata and faki-mono outfits (flip through my gallery for examples of some of them). A lot of people seem to have problems with them, and I had a lot of requests for this tutorial, so I hope you all appreciate the 8 hours it took to do this (and in a PDF, no less!)

This is really detailed, so that if you're new to sewing, you can follow it! If ~kellin could follow it, I have no doubt anyone can do this! So give it a try!!

I tried to document every step that you need to do as clearly as possible, so you shouldn't get lost! With lots and lots of technical illustrations!

You may also find my Pre Tied Obi Tutorial [link] useful in addition to this one, so check it out!

I think there could still be a few spelling/gramatical errors floating in this, so I'm sorry about those! Also, this is the first time I've made a PDF, so please be kind and let me know if there are any issues - I've checked and re-checked it through, but if I did something weird, please let me know. I'm still new to using InDesign (most of the work was done in Illustrator) so there may be some issues there

I would ask that you do not sell anything you make with this tutorial. I know that there isn't a way to enforce this, so I'm appealing to your conscience.

Any questions? Just ask! I'm always glad to answer!

If you make something from this tutorial, throw me a link so I can see! That's the reason why I do tutorials, to see what other people can come up with!!

This is great! I'm new to cosplay, and it's great to have something I can go off of rather than wasting fabric through trial-and-error.

I love this tute! The method is so logical, and so much sense that I'm even going to use the basic premise to make my Shrek tunic.
But first- here's my Uncle Iroh (from Avatar the Last Airbender) Cosplay, utilising your tutorial for the kimono under the armour. It's my first self-made Cosplay, so I'm very proud of it, and it has given me so much confidence, that Im thinking of entering the novice category of our local cosplay contest.
Words quite express my gratitude for your tutorial, but hopefully, this picture can:

Thanks a lot for the tutorial.
I decided in the last moment to make a cosplay presentation and I needed to make a kimono fast. It was really simple and easy to understand and make XD
The hard part is only manipulate big pieces of fabric ~~
Here the kimono that I made [link]
Again, thanks a lot for the tutorial. And the obi tutorial too

I'm having trouble with understanding some of the directions for starting sewing. For the neckband, you said we need 2 strips of fabric that are 4" or 5" wide and then when you said to sew them together, do you mean to sew them together at the ends to make them longer? Also, how long were each of the fabric strips supposed to be for the neckbands?

With all due respect, m'am, kimono's, yukata's, and the like are supposed to have the folding left-over right....
It's considered poor taste to have it right-over-left, as they dress the dead with theirs right-over-left.

However, great tutorial! I am reeeally thankful of it.

I actually thought I put a comment in the artist comments about it - I was too lazy to go back in and edit the file in Illustrator after compiling it all to have it facing the right way I kind of face-palm'd when I uploaded it, but never got around to fixing it... I probably shoudl one day

I'm glad that it's helpful to you!! If you ever get stuck or anything with sewing stuffs, I'm always more than happy to help how I can :3

Since then, my skill level has increased. Not much, but enough to understand how to do this :'D
Oh the joy :'D
