Description
Well, I needed a break from doing this for hours! So, I took pictures while I was going (as per the usual) of appliqueing the clouds onto the Itachi robe I have on commission (that I have to have done this weekend/early next weekSo... I hope you can find this helpful, as well! It's a grand alternative to the Fakie Screen-Printing Tutorial for a way of applying color or design.
I'll probably wind up coming in and editing this description shortly; I'm just too tired right now! That was a lot more work (both the cloud things, and the tutorial) than I thought it would be!
I have one question for Naruto fans, though: why is there only one cloud on Itachi's outfit that goes backwards? The one on the back, as per this reference - [link] Why just one?! *drives me crazy*
As per the usual:

I am so insanely happy to hear that it wasn't just me that's done that in the past
And, shoes scare me - I've only done minor work with them, best of luck with it!

This totally reminds me of my first experience with Heat and Bond - I was trying to make letters for a shirt with this stuff and cut the fabric before adhesive... Let's just say that the fabric I had used as a cover for the iron never came back off my ironing board...

I'm so happy that I'm not the only one that did that
I feel kind of bad saying it, but it makes me feel a little better XP

Yeah, you know, it never really crosses your mind the first time that the Heat and Bond stuff sticks to EVERYTHING. I only made that mistake once. It's just not a mistake you repeat.

I hear you on that one... I've thrown out two ironing board covers - one from the Heat 'n Bond, and another from melting felt to it

Felt melts? Guess I didn't know that one... I'll make sure I don't do that!

Ha! I hadn't expected it to, but I was making my second Sanzo commission, and lo and behold! I melted green felt to my ironing board cover! And it stank, too, like nothing else I may have had the iron too high, but I never did that before

Janes-Wardrobe In reply to taeliac [2008-08-27 11:04:12 +0000 UTC]
That can't have been a wool felt. Wool would singe not melt - though these days there are all sorts of fibres used in felt!

taeliac In reply to Janes-Wardrobe [2008-08-27 16:11:19 +0000 UTC]
Nope! It was the cheap, by the sheet acrylic stuff - you can't find wool felt around here, except at one store, and then they have like 3 colors of 50% wool or more... it's so depressing... I want to make hats, but the lack of the felt means less likely that's going to happen any time soon...

Janes-Wardrobe In reply to taeliac [2008-08-27 21:00:51 +0000 UTC]
That's a shame - though if you're felting hats you're probably better learning to felt from scratch - I know the theory - never done it though. It looks easy enough if a little damp and time consuming You can start with wool straight from the back of the sheep so if you can get hold of that then it's just a matter of cleaning it and felting it - or dying it first and felting with dyed wool.
Anyways - don't you have enough on your plate at the moment?

I did this almost exactly for my Team Rocket "R". I didn't have any Heat 'n' Bond, so I just pinned the sucker to the shirt and went with it. It looked SOOO much better than an iron-on decal.

taeliac In reply to AerithReborn [2008-08-20 16:31:38 +0000 UTC]
I hear you on that one! Iron-on decals aren't fun at all, and you can really tell when they're not done quite right
Pinning the heck out of it definitely works, too - I'm just lazy, so I prefer not to have to worry about things shifting at all

Thank you
What type of pants, exactly? Because they're tricky at best, and I hate making them myself (so much cheaper just to buy pants than to spend forever making them )

Umm kinda like baggy pants. If you have ever seen the male characters pants from Fire Emblem, thats what I'm talking about. Since I planning on making a costume >.< I find your tutorials most helpful!

Great overview of machine appliquΓ©! And, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who uses rayon thread for my satin stitching.
If you edit this at all, "Step 6: A Few Tips - Curves" has a spelling mistake in the first sentence of the first paragraph. It's not a big deal, but I know you're as OCD as I am.

Dammit! I thought I had checked it over
Machinel... go figure it would be something like that!
I love the rayon thread - I did it by accident one time, by forgetting to change out the embroidery thread when I was using my embroidery machine for it, and found it to be so pretty and shiny... I'm rather like a bird... shiny = good

You're like me with the OCD, so I figured you wouldn't mind my pointing it out!
Rayon thread is so pretty!! I like the shiny, and how it's so smooth...it just makes for a nice finish. And yes, shiny = very, very good... *wanders off, distracted by shiny things*
