Terms for using my tutorials
When using my tutorials or techniques explained in my tutorials all I need is that you say or write "Inspired by Talty" somewhere on the description, that's all I'm asking for. A link back to my gallery or tutorial is appreciated, but not necessary. You can make anything in my tutorials for personal or commercial purposes (yes, that means you can sell what you make) but you can't claim these techniques as your own. No redistribution, reposting or repacking of my tutorials, images, text or any part of them is allowed. They can't be translated to other languages without my permission (ask me about it). FREE TUTORIAL, NEVER TRY TO SELL IT.

UPDATE: The amazing ~Snowfern pointed out some mistakes I had made about the baking times. She explained to me why it was important to bake your items at the correct temperature, for the right amount of time. Even if your minis look fine, they're raw in the inside and they will deteriorate overtime! Not immediately, but in a few years they will crumble... so please, I can't stress how important it is to learn to bake your creations correctly!
I am sorry everyone for the mistake, I hope I didn't cause trouble

MY MOST AMBITIOUS TUTORIAL TO THIS DAY IS FINALLY COMPLETED.
One of the tutorials that helped me the most when I was learning how to make cakes was this [link] by Betsy Niederer
If you still have trouble understanding how to texture the cake, I recommend you see this video [link] by *fairchildart
Cake brush by ~Nana-viciouS
Cakes are one of the most complicated things I do, so the tutorial ended up being quite long... actually they're not complicated, they're quite easy but they involve many steps.
This took me months to finish, months! I took the first photos 3 months ago, and the last one just a couple of days ago. It was getting ridiculous: the more I advanced, the more I felt the need to take a new photo, explain a new technique, revise everything... I had to stop myself from dragging the tutorial any longer. It's finished, but I'm sure that I'll want to revise it again in the future.
Well that explains why the lightning is so inconsistent. I'm sorry about that, I hope it's not too annoying.
My next tutorial is going to be something quick and easy or I'll die

I'm sorry to spam you with all these questions (I'm just a noob honestly) but how long would you recommend baking it the last time? I'm using sculpey III if that makes any difference?

Quick question, you said to put in the eye pin in between the frosting, but then put on the fondant like cover later. In the example for the fondant part, there isn't an eye pin. I'm wondering how you get the fondant around the eyepin? Is it just a matter of ripping it a bit to get through the eye pin and then smooth it down?

Talty In reply to thetardislover4546 [2013-06-24 22:27:36 +0000 UTC]
I just cut a small slit to slip the eyepin through, and smooth it over if it needs it

Awesome, thanks. I don't have a light yellow, having already gone to the store and I've forgotten it. Can I use a light beige?

Sure! Specially if it has a yellowish tint. Try to see what works best for you, my recipe is an example

My first try! I didn't have all the extra bottles to make it look shiny or cool so I put nailpolish on it before baking it to give it a glossy look~

Ok. What if I want the cake to be chocolate too, can I just sub the yellow for brown/chocolate to mix with the translucent? and then what is a good baking time once its all put together? Or how do I know if it's under baked once it comes out?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Talty In reply to Brookette [2013-06-06 16:40:18 +0000 UTC]
I use straight Sculpey III in Chocolate to make chocolate cake, it doesn't need translucent. A good baking time, well that depends on the size, I'm only picky with baking times when there's lots of translucent clay since it tends to darken, other colors won't darken that much so lately I've been baking them for one hour just to be sure.
You can't know if your clay is under baked until two or three years later when the clay starts crumbling in your hands

LinLupin [2013-04-05 02:52:36 +0000 UTC]
so I'm guessing the Deco gel has the same rules as clay as far as baking? Oh, and can you use pieces of clay instead of paint or powder? I'm trying to make clay versions of charms I bought that all my friends now want but can't get XD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Talty In reply to LinLupin [2013-04-05 16:26:31 +0000 UTC]
Deco gel and TLS are a bit more sensitive to changes in temperature, an slightly higher temperature makes them more translucent, but going just a bit higher than that scorches them completely just follow the instructions on the package and you will be fine
Yes you can use pieces of clay instead, the result is a bit less translucent but it works just fine
Let me see how they turn out!
👍: 0 ⏩: 3
LinLupin In reply to Talty [2013-04-15 03:32:28 +0000 UTC]
I totally can't find it in any craft store near my house.... D:
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Talty In reply to LinLupin [2013-04-15 18:14:36 +0000 UTC]
DekoGel is only available online, there's no brick and mortar store that sells it. TLS should be easy to find right now to Sculpey or Premo clays.
