This is a really nice and cheap technique a friend of mine taught me. I can't tell you how much I love my sugar scrub!
- I use it before I start to remove cat hair, lint, etc. That way my clay stays clean!
- When I change colors to avoid transferring them.
- When I'm done sculpting so I don't contaminate everything I touch.
- Whenever my hands are dirty (paint, dough, gardening, etc).
- If my hands feel dry in a cold day.
It's wonderful, when you work with clay you have to clean your hands constantly, and after a couple of times they get dry and uncomfortable. This leaves them soft so you never have to worry about that "paper skin" feeling ever again. Highly recommended!
Edit: =moofestgirl has a tip for people with sensitive skin: "I made some of this today, and OH MY GOD! I have SUPER sensitive skin, like any contact with water drys out my hands in an instant, because of that I have resorted to baby wipes. But this is GREAT! I used some sensitive skin dish soap, it's got that Olay mixed in xp And I used baby oil."
Edit 2: ~limbairedhiel recommends: You could try subbing sea salt (or any other coarse salt) for sugar if your worried about ants. Works the same way and leaves skin silky smooth (also helps open pores to get rid of oil).
Theory: The plasticizer in the clay is a mixture of phthalates (not for long, most brands are phasing them out). Phthalates are slightly fat soluble, so the oil will help remove them. I did a test with several oils and I couldn't find a significant difference between oils, they all worked fine. The sugar will do the scrubbing, getting in hard places and getting rid all of those stubborn bits of clay under your nails or in the wrinkles of your fingers. Using only sugar and oil made my fingers feel a bit oily, so I add some liquid soap to the mixture to remove all the extra oil. Everything else is just extra, in case you want to add some benefits to your scrub.

You are welcome! This gets rid of about 70% of the lint, wearing light colored clothes helps too, but if you are still getting a lot of lint, try using gloves. That solves the problem, but it gets expensive after a while. I hope you guys will like it

i made some today my hands felt so strange and clean after use (which is strange as i have OCD and wash my hands constantly!), i was using dark colours today so didn't couldn't tell if there was lint on my clay. hehe as for the clothes, both me and my partner always wear black! he gets so much more lint on his dragons than i do on my things so when he makes one next that will be the real test

O_O I think I love you
I made some of this today, and OH MY GOD! I have SUPER sensitive skin, like any contact with water drys out my hands in an instant, because of that I have resorted to baby wipes. But this is GREAT! This is also a GREAT exfoliating the skin on your face or hands. If you want to use in on your face put some face soap in there instead and use it to get rid of your nasty black heads! I'm going to make a second one for that as well xp Honestly I have never had my hands feel so nice after a wash. I was so excited I washed my hands TWICE! lol
I used some sensitive skin dish soap, it's got that Olay mixed in xp
And I used baby oil. Once I get some E oil I will probably mix them, b/c E oil is EXPENSIVE x.x
Girl, you should come up with a GREAT formula and bottle this. Honestly.

I'm so glad it worked for you! I couldn't stop giggling when I read that you washed your hands twice (you are crazy, my dear friend).
I added part of your comment as a tip for people with sensitive skin xD
I don't think anyone would buy it after I just told them how to do it

Devilchild93 In reply to Talty [2011-10-06 19:01:38 +0000 UTC]
Oh, does it irritate your skin? I like the skin scrubs also. I'm also OBSESSED with the facial washes and body washes that have those little bursting beads inside. My body wash has them to moisturize, and my 1 of my morning cleansers has little citrus bursting beads that smell good.

Talty In reply to Devilchild93 [2011-10-06 22:36:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah exfolliating my face too much makes it break out. The rest of my body is fine, only my face is delicate.
I haven't tried a wash with those bursting beads inside, but it sounds like I'll love them too!

I used a stamping plate for that, it's a sort of stamp. I used Konad's M65. I could make a tutorial about it, stamping nail art is fun and easy

Yeah, I love it when people get creative with nail polish, like using stamps. Or using tapes and stickers to get a shape then peeling it off. One of the things I love, but I need to practice, is marbling, where they put drops of the polish in water, and it spreads on the surface, and they keep doing that with different colors and then finally stick their nail in and it sticks to the nail.
π: 0 β©: 1
Talty In reply to Devilchild93 [2011-10-06 22:33:47 +0000 UTC]
I love all of that too, but I'm too scared of trying water marbling. I don't know why I find it intimidating, and I'm sure I'll make a huge mess if I try it. I admire your bravery! I hope you can master the technique soon!
π: 0 β©: 1
Devilchild93 In reply to Talty [2011-10-10 02:15:48 +0000 UTC]
It is harder than it looks, the polish does not always spread properly, you need to use filtered water, sometimes bits of the polish stick to the surface of the water, and you can't always see it and they ruin any more drops of polish you put in there.
π: 0 β©: 1
Talty In reply to Devilchild93 [2011-10-10 06:30:11 +0000 UTC]
Well it sounds even more intimidating now Oo I've also read that you need nail polish that works, all I have is wet n wild and I think they don't work xD well if I ever try it I'll let you know how it went! Thanks for the advice, I'll be very careful!
