i heard something about zora being fresh water and the flooding was salt water, orrrr maybe it was the other way around. that said, if you can turn into a whole different creature type, is changing water types that hard?Β

Well for me it just seems a bit odd that a species once with gills and scales and fins could go to feathers, talons and beaks.

ikr? it's a very large progression. it seems if any form of forced evolution were to occur, making the zora better suited to live in the new body of water instead of taking them out of water all together, would have been an easier transformation, and less stressful on a race as a whole.Β
i just wanna see a video of the first fishy zora going "poof" into birds, and then having to learn derpily how to eat with a beak, fly with wings, and birdy things like that. it'd be even more awkward if it was an instantaneous change without any warning. you have these two zora making out, folding fins and all that, then one of them opens their eyes and just shouts out "HOLY FUCK WHAT HAPPENED?" and they both just start screaming as they now have feathers.Β

I tried to make this whole theory, around the fact that since Inklings forcefully splat themselves when dropping from a high height (such as Moray Towers) and respawn instead of dropping the full distance, that maybe Inklings didn't actually dissolve in water, but rather forcefully splat themselves to cut down on the time it would take to get back onto the stage.
This was promptly stomped on by Cap'n Cuttlefish's line, "Inklings can't handle water" and Callie and Marie's back and forth where Callie mentions diving into a pool and Marie said they can't, because they can't swim. "None of us can".
So until we get more mention from up top, my current head-canon is that Inklings can drink water as normal, but its only large bodies of water that pose a problem for them. As for cleaning, probably processed water that lets them keep their shape.
Doesn't explain how or why they evolved from a sea dwelling into a creature that almost literally dies in water, though...

But for some reason I think that Inklings don't actually die in water. I think they just "explode" like they do when they fall off a cliff for the same reason. Since they have goggles, snorkels, and water slides. Or they can't survive large quantities. IDK.

Supposedly its because the Zora are Fresh water fishpeople, and the salt of the Sea Water would kill them if they lived in it too long. Still doesn't explain why they didn't evolve to adapt to the salt water instead of birds!

Splatoon: Humans die out because of rising water levels, sea creatures evolve to live on land, Inkling's evolve and eventually lose the ability to swim in water and die if they're in water.
Wind Waker: The world was flooded, so the Ruto, fish people who live in water, evolve into bird people.
