The short answer is brand recognition. I wanted to preserve the Cold War aesthetic as much as possible, and the weapons are so iconic that I decided to just leave them alone.

So realistic, too - in a combat environment, when things are cooled down a bit, you'll see troops without their boots on to let their feet breathe, someone laid out in the shade, all while the workaholic boss is still scoping out what to do next... what nice, clever touches, Khal!
