~ Story ~

Inhaling a deep breath of salty sea air, Tabby focused on the task at hand, her fingers gripped tightly on the leather reins. Beneath her, the golden somatic gelding was alert and energized, his long strides and flicking tail showing he was ready to work. They'd drawn a late number, which Tabby had hoped for. It meant she knew exactly what they had to achieve to place high. They walked the sandy course, calculating every turn, every jump, the open areas for longer strides. For a course built with younger horses in mind, it was certainly still a challenge. Her biggest concern was the tight turn after the lighthouse, having to make a near 180 in order to open Onderon's stride enough for the final set of oxers.

Letting out a deep breath, the redhead steadied her nerves. Onderon had already shown great promise at the Australian Warmblood trials. Though they hadn't placed, he had performed well. She herself and regained confidence after her endurance run with Admiral, feeling refreshed with her return to the sport she loved. Leaving behind her dressage career had brought back a joy in riding she had struggled with over the last year.

As the announcer's loudspeaker blared her name, horse and country to the crowd, Tabby urged Onderon into a gentle canter, bringing the gelding around to their starting point. "Alright dude, time to show your stuff." Letting the gelding open his stride, they made for the first jump, collected and - off he went, launching them into the air, sailing over the jump, and coming back down with a well balanced landing. "Atta boy," Tabby called out, encouraging the gelding as they lined up the next jump. Up and over, another clear. Staying focused, Tabby kept them on course. Each jump after the other, then the lighthouse. Clearing the black and white bars, Onderon landed square and the pair made the hard right, coming round to the oxers.

If they cleared them, they stood a chance at placing.
