Many thanks, Might do another version at some point... that coaster annoys me!

Your very welcome!
I think it looks cool with the coaster though! ^_^

Ahh but the 'round' coaster has flat edges... that annoys me!

Sketchup is underrated. I find it so much easier to use than 3D Studio, and you can obtain such good results!

too right, keep meaning to learn blender... I muck around with it for half an hour and end up wishing i'd done something in sketchup

wow not bad for sketch up though never used or heard of kerkythea is it a free open source renderer? only think lacking from this image is ambiant occlusion cos the coaster looks like its floating evne a glass itself a little but yeah nice

Technohippy In reply to MishraFathom [2010-08-25 16:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Kerkythea is not opensource but it is free and was only my second render... some of the stuff the experts produce with it is staggering

Sebbythefreak [2010-08-23 22:52:05 +0000 UTC]

The glass is great but we don't feel the contact between the cork and the table.

Technohippy In reply to Sebbythefreak [2010-08-24 08:15:31 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, the coaster is far too regular and needs rounding off... job for later!

SoulxMonkey In reply to Technohippy [2010-08-26 06:38:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, a bit of ambient occlusion would connect the coaster and table better

Technohippy In reply to SoulxMonkey [2010-08-30 20:47:28 +0000 UTC]

looked into it and the ambient occlusion on kt is still experimental (doesn't really work) redoing a higher resolution render to see if it makes a difference

I'll look at that when i revisit it... thx for the comment

Excellent work on the glass itself, however the table needs more work on the material. The cork base also seems to have too much bump.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Technohippy In reply to Djohaal [2010-08-13 08:53:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

i'm intending to upgrade the coaster with bevelled edges so i'll have a look at the bump on that and maybe revisit the table if i get a chance.

Thanks for the comments

And what did you learn?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Technohippy In reply to 3DFXman [2010-08-12 22:24:56 +0000 UTC]

1 kerkythea is really good
2 that the IOR of glass is 1.511 (or thereabouts)
3 that the coaster looks unrealistic ( iknow how to sort it now)
4 that i could spend a very large portion of my life doing this
