Description
The first in a series of lightsabre models/renders. This will be my blade if i was a jedi (I have a sith version modelled and awaiting rendering)Modelling - Wings3D

This is my first serious model using Wings3D, Quite pleased with the results, next stage is to show blade extended.

The DOF was done as post-pro in gimp as I recall, sometimes i'll render it in sometimes not.
It depends on the size of the model/camera settings. It turns out this was quite a large model in the end, so camera DOF didn't work that well, hence the post-pro.

Yeah depth of field takes FOREVER to render so I usually do it with Photoshop + the 3DStudio Z_Depth render pass. If I use it that is lol

yeah that depth pass can be really useful (especially when you mis-scale a model)

I use Kerkythea as renderer but I couldn't even compare my little designs to your lightsaber. The realism is very important thing - and your project has it! Nicely done!

Hey... your lightsabres are excellent and the renders are beautifully clear.
I have found that getting a depth of field is very important when going for realism, unfortunately it can cause the render to slow down considerably, so most (not all) of the time i do it in post pro, both gimp and photoshop have plugins to help achieve the effect
