That had me scratching my head for a while, i think i found the answer on sketchucation in the end.
What you do is create your curved label shape, when you apply a texture such as a label to a curve, it segments the picture and i'm guessing this is your issue (because thats what happened to me!!)
i'm trying and failing to replicate this right now, however i did find a thread on sketchucation with some good tutorials about exactly this... go here [link] i think voder vocoders tute is particularly relevant

thanks i'm pretty happy with this one, i went for a massive depth of field to hide some resolution probs with the wood, nice to know it worked
