Description
A gift for every Zutarian who believes in Aang's Oedipus Complex. Behold! The day it went into complete overdrive! YEAY!Yes, I know this is a different style than I usually do, and I can't draw Aang well and Katara's leg looks too short and Toph looks a bit freakish, but I did this one really fast so oh well. I still like it.
Yeah, so, basically I did this because the other day I talking to some people the other day in the Zutara chat room, and we got to talking abut Aang's little bit of an oedipus complex, which led to a very weird tangent involving Oedipus Rex, the details of which I don't quite remember, suffice to say that the idea for THIS was somehow born out of it.
Hmmmm...something just occured to me: does Aang's having gouged out his eyes count as mature content? I don't know.
Note: This deviation is intended for the amusement of Zutarians, and not as a way to rile up Kataangers. Kataangers aren't my intended audience.
_________
Avatar belongs to Mike, Bryan and Nick.
Oedipus Rex used to belong to Sophocles, but he's long dead, so I don't suppose it belongs to anybody anymore.
Aang's eye gouging belongs to me.

I didn't block because of anything to do with you.
I blocked because I didn't think other people needed to be privy to our snarky, passive agressive dispute. Our exchange was not up to the usual standards of candor inteligence and good will to which I usually hold myself in debate I did not want to set a kind of precident to encourage that kind of exchange in either myself or in others.

...Dude, you could of just did what I suggested. Try too end the conversation in a polite fashion. And I was snarky, really? I usually am not snarky but I am proud if I was. And I did not want a shipping debate practically either, I just want too know why the hell everybody calls Kataang Oedipus complex. But something you said sparked the augment in me. Oh, but everyone in the fandom has reached their lowest points. D: I miss the good old day.

I really am sorry for sparking a debate. I just want too know why every Zutarian always tell me that Kataang is some sort of Oedipus complex. I have a feeling that you know this feeling too, only with Zutara. I just wish that the fandom got along so we can have our damn giant pizza party! D:

I did try to calmly explain the oedipus thing, and that I don't expect any non-zutarians to agree with it and that you are welcome to your opinion. I know that I probably didn't say "agree to disagree" as clearly or as bluntly as you would have wished, and I probably should have, but that's just not how I talk. It truly did not occur to me to be blunter about it. I am sorry, though, that I didn't communicate it better. I suppose that in that regard we were just on totally different wave-lengths. But then I lost my patience, and I am sorry for that as well. I am not proud of my snark.
And I ask you to please not take this the wrong way, because I truly do not mean to sound either defensive or condescending (or mean in any way), but as ashamed as I am of my own snarkiness, I think it is probably best to keep in mind that it takes two people to fight, and two people to declare a truce before it degenerates into somethin ugly. In our own ways, we are both to blame.
*sigh* Stupid NYCC. Everybody was getting along fine before they showed that darn trailer.

I agree with you. And saying this as somebody who enjoys ship wars, their only fun in a fandom that is not as batshit insane as Avatar's. And snarkyness is fine. I didn't mind the snark. I just have issues with the fandom in a whole. It just bothers me that one side mocks the other about being pompous, well in turn being pompous themselves. And that is not just one ship; it's the whole damn fandom!
And the NYCC trailer did make everything worse, but it was supposed too. It was supposed too have the fandom buzzing and make sure that everybody watches. I already knew when it was first announced that this is not going too be good for fandom. I mean letβs look back at the Season three trailer. I just really wish the fandom would just sit down, shut up, and wait patiently for Avatar. And try not too cause wank. Oh how I hate my fandom.
And sorry about my behavior. I wish too apologize except if I did my balloon like ego would deflate and Iβll be flat and wonβt be able too hunt for my kill. Too learn more catch my special on Nature. But the point is it takes two too argue, and apologize.

It's ok. At this point, we've all said an done things that we don't quite mean. We just have to take a collective step back, calm down, remind ourselves that we're all friends, and move on.
And I usually enjoy ship wars and debates too, but this...This is pure insanity.
Actually, now that I think of it, you know what it reminds me of (in a really bad analogy kind of way)? It reminds me of that guy in the Princess Bride who who had Princess Buttercup kidnapped so that in order to start a war between Gilder and Floren because war was so profitable. They're intentionally sabotaging us so that they can come up with more and better ways to get out money. The fiends.
Well, in that case, all I can say is that I have absolutely no qualms about the fact that by the time the "new" episodes air in July we'll all have already seen at least half of them illegally. Serves 'em right.

Half of them!? More like all of them! Not too mention that apparent book coming out in May detailing the finale. And I'm not too familiar with the Princess Bride...but this ship war is ridiculous! ): Maybe we if we all got along we all be having one big damn pizza party. But nooooooooo. God, I have a love hate relationship...with a fandom. New low for me.

hahaha. yeah, it's probably a new low for most of us (though I'm sure there are some who've been this crazy before). And yeah, come to think of it, it will be all the eps. Speaking of which, do you know if 316 aired anywhere tonight? I'd heard that it might.

I don't think it has either. It's been way too quiet around here. I didn't really think that it would, since we only got Boiling rock because some people got their dvds early. I'd just heard rumours. Oh well. I'm sure it'll air soon somewhere.

Tempest-in-Blue In reply to 01020304 [2008-05-03 17:46:56 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Usually I'm really good at analyzing trailers to figure out a lot more of what's goin on, but with avatar? I don't think anybody can. They did it too well. And since we know they have a trackrecord of intentionally decieving us, it's that much worse. I hate hype.
π: 0 β©: 1
01020304 In reply to Tempest-in-Blue [2008-05-03 20:17:00 +0000 UTC]
The hype is made for fandom too have a spaz attack and watch the finale. Most fans of Avatar were going too watch the finale anyway, but they are always those shippers who are like "Screw you guy, I'm going home!" and they wouldn't want that. But the fandom is more likely too kill of half of the fans. So there go the ratings.
When again, Nick is probably have a commercial for the finale which will go something like "Hey kids! Avatar is ending soon! So catch the veiwing starting at 7PM...in the Sahara desert! We would air it here in America. But we think that Zoey 101 is more important. Also it is the only veiwing EVER! So were just telling you 48 hours advanced." Sadly I think that I am right. Except it's somewhere different so we can't preorder tickets. D=

01020304 In reply to Tempest-in-Blue [2008-05-04 19:38:17 +0000 UTC]
...Shipping debates? Anyway, ship wars with politness and other stuff are fun. But the problem with the fandom at the moment is that everybody has their own stupid theory about the finale. I've seen some Zutarians (No offence too your ship.) create theories that would be perfectly fine, if Avatar wasn't a show on Nick. Also on at 8PM...I'm going too make a frowny face now .
But Kataang fans have not been the most perfect shippers in the galaxy either. I mean, Katara is not going too automaticaly fall into Aang's arms like some sort of robot. It may take time, like a couple episodes if it is too happen. But the point of the subject is that people need too sit down and watch the show.
...I don't know how too make an angry face without HTML.

We've all got our crackpots, I suppose. What I find strange, though, is just how many crackpots there seem to be among avatards. What is it about this show that truns everybody into addicts and then drives them all insane?

01020304 In reply to Tempest-in-Blue [2008-05-05 04:17:29 +0000 UTC]
...Sokka. Sokka addicts everyone too the show. And were not crackpots, we're just normal human beings who hate each other. I really wish the fandom would shut up about everything. And I'm not just talking about Kataang Vs. Zutara. They need too stop hating Mai and Aang, and also hating on slash. Seriously, nothing wrong with shipping two guys our girls. And if it displeases you, you don't have too go all "OMG ewwww!" Why fandom! Why must you be this way!

Like you just said, we're just normal human beings.
Sometimes, that's just how people are (especially for a "kids" show).
And I actually think that very few people really hate Mai or Aang (I can only think of one person who genuinely hates Aang.I know many more people who are critical of some of his behavior, but that doesn't mean that we dislike him. I think most of us were a lot harder on Zuko than we ever are on Aang). I think most of that is probably just an expression of the frustration and dislike that people feel over their ships.
π: 0 β©: 1
01020304 In reply to Tempest-in-Blue [2008-05-05 16:04:57 +0000 UTC]
You are right, very few people hate Aang and Mai...but my God they are loud! I mean I can hear them everywhere! XD But anyway, people over react and get angry. But hey it isn't their fault, I mean I kind of understand...sometimes. When they don't pull out some of the stupidest arguments in the book that don't even have too do with Avatar.
π: 0 β©: 1
Tempest-in-Blue In reply to 01020304 [2008-05-05 16:39:34 +0000 UTC]
I think that the main reason why people pull out lame arguments as to why they think that various characters suck is that not everybody always has a real reason to dislike a given character. They just dislike them. Personally, I don't have any characters from Avatar that I randomly hate, but in Harry Potter I have always, always hated Ginny Weasley. Do I have a reason to hate her? Not really. I just do. I have a friend who felt the same way about Sirius.
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make in my roundabout way is that sometimes people just randomly hate a character (and personally, I think that's ok. Nobody every said that we all had to like every character), but they feel obligated to justify their hatred, hence the lame and irrelevant arguments.
