A gift for every Zutarian who believes in Aang's Oedipus Complex. Behold! The day it went into complete overdrive! YEAY!
Yes, I know this is a different style than I usually do, and I can't draw Aang well and Katara's leg looks too short and Toph looks a bit freakish, but I did this one really fast so oh well. I still like it.
Yeah, so, basically I did this because the other day I talking to some people the other day in the Zutara chat room, and we got to talking abut Aang's little bit of an oedipus complex, which led to a very weird tangent involving Oedipus Rex, the details of which I don't quite remember, suffice to say that the idea for THIS was somehow born out of it.
Hmmmm...something just occured to me: does Aang's having gouged out his eyes count as mature content? I don't know.
Note: This deviation is intended for the amusement of Zutarians, and not as a way to rile up Kataangers. Kataangers aren't my intended audience.

...Okay I'm not going too lash out at you yet, but could you at least calmly explain why Kataang is oedipal? I just really want too know if I'm missing something? So if you could Tempest? And that is not exactly how the Oedipus story goes. Man everyone only remembers Oedipus for doing his mother...

I know perfectly well how Oedipus Rex goes; I am very well aware that Oedipus stabbed/gouged out his eyes with the pins from Jocasta's clothes after he found that she had hanged herself. But that has noting to do with an 'oedipus complex' which, as I'm sure you know, mainly just centers around a young man's sexual attraction to his mother or mother figure and his hostility towards her significant other (though in Aang and Katara's case she doesn't have a significant other for him to be hostile towards).
Aang's oedipus complex is a sort of running Zutarian theory/argument/joke which is based around how he is clearly in love with Katara, but she continually mothers him and treats him like a child. She generally takes care of him, protects him, is his shoulder to cry on, and tells him he can't go out and play with the Teo and the Duke because he has to come inside and discuss the new strategy. She even kind of tucks him into bed in one episode. And while she is willing to share all his burdens, she never really lays any of hers on him.
So, yeah, there you go. That's the Zutarian's theory of Oedipal Kataang in a very, VERY small nutshell. It goes on, but I wont.
And if you are a Kataanger, which, by the nature and tone of your question, I assume you are, then before you get all offended and/or defensive about either this picture or the Zutarian theory of Oedipal Kataang, I would like you to keep in mind that I did clearly state at the beginning of my artist comments that I did this picture purely for the amusement of my fellow Zutarians, and not to be mean to Kataangers.

I'm not going too yell at you for being a Zutarian. I'm not even going too yell at you...I am however silently judging you.
First off Katara is motherly towards everything. She was forced by herself too grow up prematurely when her mother died. She basically forces herself too act like a mother so in her mind too keep order. And one of the things I'd like too point out is that Aang has actually broken though this motherly habit a couple times. Katara has showed sparks of jealousy when other women get close too Aang. And she genially would act this way toward Zuko too if she didn't hate him right now.
Just because you have a crush on a provider of the group doesn't mean you have Oedipus complex. And once again I'm just saying this too counter point an argument. Letβs not get angry at each other for shipping and fandom. Though I would like too point out that if you follow Freudβs theory when everyone has Oedipus complex and is there fore, screwed up for life...not too mention Zuko. I'm just saying that if you don't look at it with a loving family eye and more with a screwed up psychologist eye, you can say Zuko has Oedipus complex too.
That's the problem I have with Oedipus complex, you can take a nice loving family situation and screw it up until it looks like a Jackson Pollock painting. And I'm not saying this because I "OMG HATE U ZUTARIANSS!!@!@!!" I'm saying this cause I dislike when anyone insults somebody ship with the Oedipus complex argument...unless it's Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Why are you acting like it's my theory? I didn't come up with it. Like I said, it's something of a running Zutarian joke. We know perfectly well that Katara mothers everybody and that Zuko is a mama's boy with daddy issues. We're waiting to see if she starts mothering Zuko once she forgives him. If she does, then fine; we'll come up with a new theory.
And sure, not everybody who has a crush on their provider has an oedipus complex, but that's not the point. The point is that no matter how stupid a lot of kataangers think the oedipus thing is, there are a great many Zutarians who honestly see kataang that way, and always have. It has noting to do with wanting to be mean to kataangers or it "insulting" kataang, it's just their honest initial reaction and interpretation. It's what they really see. And almost by definition, personal interpretations of art and literature can't be wrong. There can be alternate interpretations, but that doesn't mean that either one is wrong or right. Clearly you have an alternate interpretation than we do and that's fine.
So I'm sorry if oedipus bugs you, but I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about it or apologize for how Zutarians see the show. That would be totally pointless. I'm not out to make anybody agree that Aang either does or does not have an oedipus complex. I'm only out to entertain people who already think that he does.

My, my, my...you don't have too get that uppity. It just bothers me altogether when people shout that Kataang is Oedipus complex. Sure, you are not taking the theory seriously but many Zutarians do and try too using it to disprove Kataang as a whole ship, not just in canon. Don't get me wrong, I've yelled at Zutarians for having theories about how Avatar will turn out, (Which completely screw up everything that I love about the show, including poor Sokka.) but I wasn't aiming for them too stop them from shipping it no matter what. I don't mind Zutara in fanon and in certain predicaments. But I do mind that some people want me too stop shipping Kataang altogether.
And I promise that if I see a Kataang fan being an idiotic fanbrat I will yell at them too. They just need too get out of their paranoid spiral of worrying about the trailer of the finale. Also my point was that Freud had issues. Many people don't read the full details of Oedipus complex, or Electra complex. And you won't agree with my view of thought and I will not agree with yours, but I will disagree with the Oedipus complex theory of Zutarians. That is all I wanted too say.

First off, I would like to apologize for my previous tone. I was very tired at the time. I am not usually so...cold or ascerbic. I gave into the lower parts of my personality, and that is not my way, and I am sorry for that. All I meant was that, whether other people like it or not, a lot of Zutarians see kataang in a particular way and you can't fault people for their opinion or personal interpretations about any peice of art.
I can understand that it bothers you when people try to convince you to switch ships. I'm not trying to convince you of anything (if I were I'd probably be writing either a debate outline or a very long essay in stead of doodling cartoons). You're welcome to disagree with any Zutarian theory that you want.
And I understand that the oedipus argumetn particularly bothers you (and I admit that freud had issues and that it's far from our strongest theory). But kataangers say things all the time that really bother me, too. For instance, it really annoys me when people say that Katara hates Zuko because I honestly don't think that she does.
And I think that eveybody can agree that fanbrats are no good.
(Though in my defense, you did put me on the defensive right from the off by saying that you weren't going to attack me "yet" and that you were "silently judging" me)
