Description
EDIT: Well, the poster/DVD cover has been revealed and the tagline... is a woefully generic "This ain't no bedtime story." and despite how frankly cheap it looks, some overly sensitive kids and adults who never properly grew up are back at it with all the crying.
Another gag I was thinking of for this was one about Pooh being so done with 2022 but honestly that's becoming a bit played out. Moving on though, some of you might be wondering what in God's name that thing is or you might be thinking "Huh that's a neat idea for a horror-themed cosplay.". Either way, this is a still off a brand new Winnie the Pooh film if you can believe it. The film is titled "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" and is a slasher film not made by Disney about the beloved icon and his best friend Piglet getting a taste for blood after Christopher Robin abandons them for college and unfortunately in those years since, they've been left to fend for themselves and have become like the feral wild animals they are supposed to be. The film's being produced by Jagged Edge Productions who are no stranger to taking iconic fairy tales and turning them into horror flicks and is the current talk of the internet because... well why wouldn't a Winnie the Pooh horror film do that?
So how could this happen? Well right at the start of 2022, the characters and story of A.A. Milne's first book officially entered the public domain, meaning anyone is open to making whatever they want with these characters and the world they live in. Now there are still limitations. For instance Disney still owns the rights to their specific version of Pooh so while as you can see here a company can make Pooh yellow, look vaguely like his Disney counterpart and put him in a red flannel shirt? If someone puts him in a regular red t-shirt and no pants then there's gonna be a problem. I've also read that certain characters like Tigger are off the table but otherwise anything else that was present in that original book is fair game... and I'm here for this kind of enjoyable stupidity. I'm not sure if I will be watching it yet because Pooh and his world are personal comforts for me (To put it simply I was a tear-stained mess during most of Christopher Robin and I'm not remotely ashamed to admit that.) but in terms of just an idea? I think it's enjoyably insane and honestly as a horror fan I say we should have more reboots of properties like this. It's something different and wild and if you have some sense of self-awareness and humor to appreciate these kinds of off-beat interpretations then honestly this is a treat. That being said? This has also inspired various reactions from a bunch of chil-I mean overly sens-I mean overly sensitive children and adults who seemingly never grew up who are making the tired cries of "THIS RUINED MY CHILDHOOD!" with there even being one of those useless as fuck change.org petitions because of course there is.
Now let me be clear, my tone is not directed towards those who simply don't have a desire to watch this. If you don't want to watch a movie where Pooh is a murderer? That's totally fine, you are free to do so and screw whoever tells you that you have to watch this. No, my tone is directed towards people who throw a damn fit just about any time something like this is brought into existence whether its parodies or that Banana Splits slasher flick that came out in 2019 and scream about their childhood being ruined and treat this as if the producers personally came to their house and burned everything of theirs. To put it simply, your childhood can never be ruined. I'm gonna repeat that and I'm gonna get a bit more blunt because it needs to be said.
Your childhood can never, EVER be ruined. It is literally impossible for that to happen. Why? Because by its nature, a childhood is something that has already occurred. Those memories have already been created. Now there is something to be said for seeing something like this and then being unable to stop thinking about this even as you're going back to the lighthearted original cartoons but that will pass with time. Unless seeing these promo images somehow resulted in an event where your memories and time is irreversibly altered to force this into your childhood? It will be just fine. If you are a child or teen yourself? First I'd ask how old you are because depending on your age I will be blunt in saying you shouldn't be on the internet and then I'd mention how your childhood is still going. People forget that childhoods are more than just the shows you watch. They're your life experiences from your first love to your time at school and more. If your childhood is ruined by seeing something like this? With all due respect, that means you're basically saying your childhood wasn't worth shit aside from this one thing.
Moreover, this is a reinterpretation made for adults who hopefully are able to tell the difference between different interpretations and who have the sense of humor to recognize this for what it is which is dark parody that takes advantage of the original work's newfound public domain status. I mean the idea itself is patently ridiculous. It's Pooh Bear and Piglet as backwoods slasher villains which there is humor in since most slashers are set deep in the woods and there's the fact Pooh is... well a bear. Again, if you are just not interested? That is totally normal, no one's putting a knife to your throat demanding you to watch it. To freak about this though and willingly craft petitions to try and "stop" this from being made (Which never work because seriously, change.org isn't just gonna mail a petition to some random London production company just because a couple of people got upset over a movie they're well within their rights to make.) is completely ridiculous and I'll just come out and say it, it's also inherently childish.
In a world like this one where we have been positively inundated with children's media and have even started getting to the point where children are able to accept alternate universes that have their favorite superheroes as bloodthirsty zombies and a film involving the multiverse where variants of iconic heroes are shown being brutally murdered? There is nothing wrong with something like this being a thing and quite frankly it makes me roll my eyes every time to see a bunch of babies scream and cry because god forbid something like this happens especially when I see people saying Disney or the Milne estate should sue when this is IP law actually working the way it's supposed to. Do y'all realize that half the shit you enjoy wouldn't be a thing if they didn't enter the public domain? It's a lot more than you think and honestly this should've happened way earlier. The whole point of public domain is that allows for the freedom and creativity to do stuff like this so to see people outraged and demanding basically for companies to break the law and abuse copyright because they don't want to see this is outright sickening and stupid. I don't usually get this vicious when it comes to statements made but I'm making an exception because this really needs to be said. Thank you all for reading, please feel free to comment and stay gold.
