Description
Hey, guys!People keep asking me what I use to draw and how I get my lines so clean. Now I'm going to show you!
CLICK HERE TO NAVIGATE TO THE VIDEO:
Anyways, this was largely due to a Tumblr request I got today (yesterday?). Sort of the last straw to break the camel's back. I'm tired of typing everything.
Basically this is me, through sheer power of will and ingenuity, finding a way to film myself drawing. It involves the re-purposing of a vanity case. Don't ask.
Please let me know if this was at all helpful! I really only wanna share what I know and if I don't do that effectively, then that's a problem.
Thanks, guys!

Great to hear your voice, Miss Ez! It shocks me how easy it is for you to create such a nicely defined mouth. That thought lingered in my head from the minute you drew it until the end of the video. I'm envious of those mouths.

I really enjoyed your video!
I've had kneading erasers...but never quite knew how to efficiently use them. But now I have a better grasp
I also quite enjoyed your commentary and legal advice. lol I really enjoy when an artist talks while drawing, that way I can understand why he/she did that. You are very entertaining to watch/ hear. Keep up the good work!

I love hearing artists say they love traditional drawing over digital art because I am in the same boat. I have nothing against tablet drawing (in fact I am envious), but I am just awful at it. I need to be able to move the paper, feel the pencil sliding, and goodness knows shoving my face as close as possible is something I cannot live without. I have tried out of habit on my laptop and nearly blinded myself! It probably adds to my horrible vision haha! It's just always good to hear that other artists hold loyalty to good ol pencil and paper as well and I'm not living way back in the dark ages.
This was really awesome and helpful idea on lines! I think I will try this method and see how it feels. Watching you made it a million times easier to see what you meant and how you accomplish your lines. Love you art and look forward to more of your story! I catch up way to quickly.

Yeah, the tablet can be cumbersome. I only use it for painting if I can help it.
I'm glad the tutorial helped you out a little! Thanks for watching!

Lol, you're hilarious. Thanks so much for doing this! I've never tried using a kneaded eraser before, I've always just used a normal white rubber. (Funny story, I once tried something like the steamrolling thing with the normal rubber and it just picked up the graphite and stamped it over the drawing.
) I think I'll buy one this afternoon, my newsagent sells the same one.

*is giving more in-depth comment after watching video*
Y'know, I've known about the kneaded-eraser for a long time, but I've never actually tried one.
I've heard how wonderfully useful it is, but I've never really had the opportunity to see one being used.
I think this showcased it very nicely, and I do believe I know what I want to purchase for art supplies next time I get the chance.
Wow, your pencil looks so very similar to mine--I have an old mechanical CastellXF 0.5 Spring Tip I've been using since probably 2007 or earlier, and I've found it to be most comfortable in my hand; since it's about the same thickness as a regular No.2 pencil, and doesn't have an annoying rubber grip. (I hate rubber grips, they tend to get so tacky feeling in humidity, and with age in general. That's one of the things I hate about my Wacom stylus--the stupid grip collects dust and cat hair and can't be cleaned off very well. That, and the fact that it's fat. I HATE fat pencils and pens...I don't care if they're supposed to cut down on hand strain from gripping your writing utensil too hard, because I'll end up doing that no matter what. I was thinking about looking into an older style of Wacom pen, coz I hear they're thinner, but I don't know if it's worth the price.)
Anyways...getting sidetracked here. What else was I saying?
Oh yeah, it's interesting to note what lead you use, coz I usually just use whatever stuff we have on hand, (usually a Pentel brand, high polymer/whatever) but I guess the lead mom bought last time wasn't so great, because just about all of my siblings have been complaining that it's been smudging pretty bad on their pictures. Unless it's the paper...we all use standard printer paper, but there's been differing quality there as well, since it's whatever is cheap. There was some really nice, bright white, thicker stuff that I absolutely adored, but we went through that kinda fast. (It made for SUPERB character sheets, adding a nice crispness that didn't make the ink run as bad when people accidentally spit on it.)
Er, I'm getting sidetracked again.
As noted before, your voice is utterly charming for tutorials--you sound very natural in expressing what you're conveying. (Even when you forget the words.) And you give a great sense of enjoying the drawing process. Very charismatic in that way. (It reminds me of watching Bob Ross paint, he was so darn HAPPY doing it, and sharing the process with people. His quiet way of talking was very soothing and encouraging. Your voice has much the same effect.) *and you're not boring at all*
Thank you so very much for sharing your technique--I think this will help me greatly in getting a sense of how to draw again.

Oh wow, I loved watching this! Your commentary made me a giggle a few times.
Really love the steamrolling effect, I've only ever used my kneaded eraser for dabbing like when I was first introduced to it at school, but I definitely want to try this now! Fun fact too, I checked how much 8.90 is converted to USD and it's about $0.83 USD, but here I think erasers are around $2.00 USD, so yours are so much cheaper than ours!
Any advice on cleaning the silly things once they get hair and dirt stuck to them though?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
The-Ez In reply to Vlorrie [2014-06-15 09:09:14 +0000 UTC]
Oh wow! They're $2.00 where you are? HOLY COW HAHA!
Thanks for checking. That's actually very interesting!!!
Someone on YouTube commented that you can clean the erasers by kneading them, but I've never tried that before. I just buy a new one and throw the old one away. I also buy six or seven at a time, so I just cycle through them. One eraser tends to last me about three months.
Don't know if that's helpful, but there you go.

Innnnteresting! I haven't tried that either, I just tended to throw mine away too.
