if you're referring to digital work, then it's all about layer settings.

this helps out a lot!... but could i know one more thing?...when you color do you just go over the lines with color or do you go behind it? i use a mouse to do everything...but when i try something like this i cant color over lines right...so i made layers and try clearing out the whites using selective color and delete, and then color on a layer below it...but when i delete whites that way it makes the lines dissolve and it dosent look right....even after leveling it like this sort of...

by the way you can use pens and level them good like this too right?...using pens is the only way i get clean streaks like these...

theCHAMBA In reply to mangoten [2010-01-09 03:13:07 +0000 UTC]

try it out
best to experiment on your own and find out.
results vary from one to another so I can't say.

Do you still use this method now a days instead of a tablet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to PikachuProdigy [2010-01-01 05:58:33 +0000 UTC]

when i draw traditionally (which i still do)
I do use this method.
or atleast a variation of it.

Ummm... does the type of paper you draw on effect the scan? Like, does certain paper allow the lineart to show up better than other after being scanned?

theCHAMBA In reply to westpointsoulja [2009-05-05 06:28:59 +0000 UTC]

not sure really
all i've ever really used for nearly all that i've uploaded are basic printer paper, or the udon comic paper

thanks a lot mate
but do u separate the lineart from the background before u color? or u keep it on flat white background?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to abazou [2008-07-04 03:42:00 +0000 UTC]

it's all personal choice on that part.
sometimes i do, sometimes i don't.

i dont get how ure lines are so damn clean... is it just because the pic here is a lil zoomed out? or at 100% zoom at 300 dpi? my 0.5 lead looks rough still..

theCHAMBA In reply to zap23 [2008-06-01 19:13:21 +0000 UTC]

hey chamba, i have a question, i see that in most of your works you outline the figure darker than you have everything else levelled... this doesn't explain that part of the process, can you show me, or let me know how you do that??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to Dcraze [2008-05-02 03:46:21 +0000 UTC]

that's simply a manually drawn outline (pretty self explanatory there).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dcraze In reply to theCHAMBA [2008-05-02 04:18:59 +0000 UTC]

so, you purposely increase pressure around the character to create a darker outline when leveling?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to Dcraze [2008-05-02 05:10:28 +0000 UTC]

that's one method, sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dcraze In reply to theCHAMBA [2008-05-02 11:50:09 +0000 UTC]

ok cool, how bout burning, burning around the character can work well too right?...
srry if i'm askin too many questions

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to Dcraze [2008-05-02 13:18:46 +0000 UTC]

experiment a bit.
you'll get something that you'll like the outcome of.
that's the best thing i can suggest.

This is a wonderful idea, but I cannot help but wonder how you get your initial sketch to be so clean. I mean, I admit I am kind of a messy sketcher/drawer and tend to press down hard on the paper, even when I try not to. (kinda annoying, really). So I am curious, what size and weight lead do you usually use? And on what size paper? O o;; If yeh don't mind my asking, that is. ^ ^;;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to Aneiryu [2008-03-24 06:37:02 +0000 UTC]

the size paper/weight lead I use is usually shown in the artist's comment of every piece.
as for what size lead, for base lines it's a regular wooden pencil, and for the clean lines it's 0.5

This is what i do right. but i have an A4 scanner and i draw on A4 and my lines don't come out that sharp. Do you work bigger? or are you a freak?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to spencertoons [2007-12-15 08:54:19 +0000 UTC]

i don't work bigger and i don't think I'm a freak.. so I guess it could be the size lead you draw w/.

spencertoons In reply to theCHAMBA [2007-12-16 00:19:37 +0000 UTC]

yeh. probs. Oh! also when you draw your light construction lines with 4h (i use an F) do you have to erase them before you scan or are they so light you can't see them??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to spencertoons [2007-12-16 00:39:57 +0000 UTC]

they're pretty light so i don' erase anything (unless of course I stuff up a line and need to erase it)
