Description
8 x 10 Gouache paints with coloured and graphite pencil on watercolour paper.I did this painting in secret, to give to my hubby (who is a huge Oz fan) on his birthday, which just happened to land on opening night of a production of "The Wizard of Oz" he and I directed together.
The prep was done in small portions over a number of days, leading up to the only day I got to really do some art in the whole rehearsal process for the show. I dropped John (that's my husband) off at work, and while he thought I was going to work after, I went back home and did the painting portion of the illustration. I think it turned out pretty good considering it was painted in one day, though there are some aspects I'd have done differently if I'd had the time.

Beautiful! Β Your hubby must be "Over the Rainbow" (sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun). Β My favorite song from one of my favorite movies. Β I love Judy Garland, and enjoy all of her movies, but this is the first one that I saw her in when I was a kid. Β It is very special to me.

He was certainly surprised when I gave it to him - I did a good job of keeping the secret
And thanks for the compliments on the piece!

Thanks! I tried to make it look like only the parts of her in the sun would be "colourized"
