*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work, building up to (hopefully) having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***
My feelings about this painting - meh. Now in myΒ defense, in the grand scheme of things the chapter is sort of meh to. There were plenty of fun moments I could chose to feature as the main illustration for the chapter, but this moment won. It was interesting, featured Quirrell - who hadn't gotten more time other than when he was seated with the rest of the professors during the sorting. Of course, he'll get another illustration, but that's later. I don't hate the painting or anything so extreme. There are parts I like a lot. It's just, by comparison to others, it felt a bit like a throw-away-piece.Β

Okay. I now understand what the chapter was for.
But where's the unicorn?

The unicorn isn't in this chapter. The chapter after is Norbert, which gets the kids in trouble, sending them into the Forbidden Forest for detention where the unicorn is.Β

You're right about this chapter being 'meh'. It had to build up for a lot of plot points. I don't remember what time it was when this scene took place, but nice job of showing the setting sun. From Harry's point of view, Quirrell really does look like the victim and you did a good job representing just that.
