Description
16 x 22Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper
*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***
This was literally the very first Harry Potter illustration I ever did. Over all it stands the test of time, but I do see flaws I wish I could fix. It's (unfortunately) my least favorite Dumbledore I've done - I normally feel quite comfortable with drawing/painting him, but I think I was a step away from "finding" him in illustration-ly speaking. Also I didn't do much reasearch of what the houses would be like and just did the background house in a style that seemed the most "British" to me at the time. I've learned better since then.

I love how you have Hagrid twice the size as a regular person. The movie made him larger than life but they still couldn't do it justice. Dumbledore and Harry together are incredibly sweet.

Yeah, I liked Hagrid in the movies, but he definitely wasn't big enough. That was actually one of the original driving forces influencing me to do my illustrations... make them right - according to me anyway

What touched me most about this painting is Minerva's comforting hand on Hagrid's arm, although she also is clearly overcome by emotion. Β I also love the tender way Dumbledore is cradling baby Harry.

Thanks for the compliments! This was literally the first painting I did for the Potter-Project, so some of the characterizations weren't solidified as much as they are now. But it's nice to know there mood and feel carried through the scene.

I'm aware that Hagrid is half giant. But seeing him here blew me away. Amazing.

Thanks so much! Were he real, Hagrid would probably have that effect on people

Even when I trust him, I'd still be careful with where he's going.

I can understand that. Personally, I have a little crush on Hagrid, so he'd get my trust quicker than others

Yes, very much actually. I go for big, round, and bearded guys to begin with, then Hagrid's personality is just too adorable.Β

Fascinating. I don't know if this is a good place for it, but my taste is similar. Except replace the man and beard with woman and boobs.
