16 x 22Gouache and Watercolour paints with coloured pencil (and a little bit of marker) on watercolour paper
*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***
It's fun to "officially" start the next set of paintings - especially for this Potter series. I start toward the end of the previous book, but I feel more comfortable drawing Harry looking a little older now - his glasses fitting better and stuff like that. This particular painting I had fun with the feel of cold night outside, contrasted by the warm light of Harry's bedside lamp. I had fun drawing Hedwig and Errol in the background sharing the cage, while the Hogwarts Tawny Owl flies off into the night - so many different personalities in just the animals alone.Β

Third: What's shown in the video is what I've done so far with the first two books. I plan to re-do them using the actual text, at the very least for myself. Then from here on out, as I finish the illustrations for a book, I'll be making it using the actual text.
Fourth: I would like to sell them, but I have to make sure it's not illegal or that I'm infringing on copyright or anything. It's possible considering each book would be hand made, thus could be considered a work of art unto itself. But I don't want to get into any legal trouble, so I'm not jumping into doing that yet.
Fifth (and final): I wouldn't just like it, I would LOVE it, if I worked out a way to sell them and could make enough to make a living off of the project... illustrating the Potter books IS my dream job.Β

Oh man, this chapter was one of my favourites as a kid, I must have reread it god knows how many times. This piece really captures the vibe that I got caught on: the cool melancholy of the night with this spark of warmth from the magic world interrupting it.
Your pieces are just so good at bringing me back to just how much I lived in this world as a kid.
