Description This image was created using VUE 2014 Complete and comprises of 1.9 million polygons @ 10 Hours.

After repairing damages on a desolate planet, taken from their pursuers the Falconions, the Battleship Gauldara attempts another escape attempt.

Vue
An infinite procedural terrain was used for the landscape with a planetary cloud layer set really low to around 300 meters. Detail for the clouds was set to 100%
Photometric lighting was used which, I think, gave the sun shafts that all important appearance!

My wife suggested putting in some buildings over the landscape but I don't know how well that would work with the current terrain setup so I'm going to take her idea into a separate image and see where that takes me

Post Production
The scene was rendered alongside a depth map so that I could use Photoshop to provide a subtle lens blur effect. Photoshop was also used for typical colour balancing and vibrancy toning.
Finally FilteForge was used to apply some subtle affects.

Interesting. Maybe the ship in the front could be a little bit more crisp.

Yeah, I think I went a little overboard with the lens blur effect
Glad you think it's interesting though

Nice work! A couple of suggestions: the plume coming out of the main ship is as un-focused as the background, so it took me a while to see what it was. Perhaps sharpen that a bit. Also, the ship is completely in shadow, and would look better with a light on it somehow. Either in Photoshop or (hate to suggest it, given the 10 hr render time) re-render with a spot light.

Thanks for your comments they're appreciated and yes you're right, the ship is a little too much on the shadowy side of things. Whilst it does look ok to me I should think more about how others would see the imagery. I know what it is so I can immediately make out the details but to people seeing it for the first time won't have that advantage.
I also agree with the lens blur, I went a little overboard with it

Thanks for stopping by!

It's hard sometimes to really see an image when you've been working on it for hours and hours.
