Description

In all honesty, I do not think that women going topless to promote gender equality is going to solve matters.  I understand that women are held to stricter standards on sexuality than men, and that in some ways, a woman owning her body is disgraceful to some. But how is bearin your breast going to help with not being objectified?  Or how is it going to help promote gender equality?  I mean, there are more important issues that feminism needs to deal with, such as equal pay, conditions for women in third world countries, and that's not going to be solved by the #freethenipple campaign.  I mean, they intend well, but in reality, it is going to encourage more objectification of women. This is not an effective way to go about solving the problem, and this is why I am against #freethenipple .

Personally I see it the simplest principle sort of way.

Men can have their shirts off, most often during summer, and some specific places, where there's zero uproar. But many women cant. They cant breastfeed. And they're banned off social media sites for showing nipples when men aren't.

Its fine to be more sexually open or closed than some. 100% perfect. But neither of those two options should be banned, or required, by law. Especially not when the standards are unequal, like they are today.

Nobody is saying this is going to solve sexism. But its still something that should be solved.

If women can go topless in public, then my cousin can go outside with his dick and balls out.
And legitimately, when I go outside in public, even in the summer I STILL don't see dudes without a shirt. Not one.

Not only it won't solve any problem at all,
but in fact it will have quite the opposite effect!
It is obvious that it can only lead to more objectification of women.

Besides, there is the legal issue.
It is illegal to be naked in public in many countries, places and occasions...

Not to mention that many supporters of "free the nipple" are rather hypocritical. First they want women to have the right have their nipples shown in public, but then they complain about cat calling and the "objectification of women."

(DISCLAIMER: if you respond to this, make sure you have read and understood ALL of it or it'll make 0 sense for you to bother responding.

- I'm tired of 'smart' users who find a tiny quote from my 'essay' comments, take it out of context because it sounded weird, and speak nonsense that has nothing to do with what I actually said and simply twist my words and claim I said something I didn't - I'm allergic to that and I will surely ignore all 'replies' like this - I've wasted way too much of my life for people like this, thanks for understanding!

Yes, I'm not native to English D: )

Although I may not support the ways they try to change the world with (by going topless in a society where it's not accepted), I fail to see why nipples are basically allowed on males but are forbidden on females while both sexes' nipples themselves look the same? (I'm using mental shortcuts with "allowed/banned", please bear with me! I know it's not nipples that are banned but the display of them in public etc.^^) They are both equally sexy and unsexy (just like any other sex-shared bodypart,, e.g. feet). If you see a photo of a random nipple with hair removed and without the breast visible around the areola, you won't probably have a clue which sexes' nipple you're looking at... you'd only be able to guess, it's 50-50... seriously, it's easier to tell which sexes' palm you're looking at...

Since nipples look the same regardless of the sex they are on, and all the differences between individual nipples are not sex-bound, both sexes should abide to the same limitations regarding nipples: if "male nipples" are allowed in public, "female nipples" should too (those are the same nipples, come on!), if "female nipples" are not allowed in public, it's only logical to ban "male nipples" too (not to mention there's not even such a such thing as "male nipples", it's only [female] nipples on males, see the last paragraph of this comment to see why).

Since I don't believe men will EVER agree to censor their nipples from the public eye (because that's not even practical in certain situations! not to mention it's nearly impossible to take away an already existent liberty without serious social outrage nowadays), freeing all nipples - regardles what kind of breast the nipple is on - is the only correct AND feasible thing that is left to do. It would be quite a challenging social change and would require time to spread, but there were many changes like this across history, even in the subject of nudity

Nipples on female breasts are currently considered NSFW/sexy/etc. ONLY because this is where the cultural modesty is currently at. After all, some time ago, knees or (head)hair on females were so arousing  that people couldn't stand seing them revealed... And in some cultures women don't cover their breasts and the surrounding men aren't contantly aroused... The ONLY reason people are so easly aroused by nipples on females is BECAUSE people are NOT USED TO the sight... As an NSFW artist I'm used to nudity very well, and quess what... nudity is not at all attractive (nor disgusting) to me anymore, it's just... normal, sexually&aesthetically neutral, the default...  this is how it works. -Ofc because the society around me has a much different modesty standard than what I'm used to see, I wouldn't feel comfortable going naked or watching nudity with those people around, but this is where the social acceptance part comes in, not to mention community rules(e.g. I still have to put "mature" warning on nipples no matter what I think about it ), but it's a bit of a dfferent story - one regular person can't change social norms of any sort.

Also, like any other thing, nipples CAN be a fetish. In a nipple-equal world where all nipples are allowed in public, the only people still sexually attracted to nipples left are... nipple fetishists. Just like feet generally aren't sexually attractive, to feet fetishists they are... Some minority will always be attracted to nipples, just like another minority - to feet(and other things society doesn't generally consider sexually appealing right now)... But when the society as a whole finally gets used to all nipples just like it is used to all feet, future generations will laugh at us, 2019 society, for covering nipples on females for being too unmodest - just like we, 2019 society, laugh at past generations for covering knees for being too unmodest! Nipples arent' that different from knees, both sexes have nipples and both sexes have knees - and for both sexes nipples as well as knees look basically the same...

While genitals (crotch areas) are very different between sexes (all parts are homological but look completely different... not to mention the enirety of the final result) and it sort of makes sense to keep them covered in a way (though some people argue about that... after all we don't put pants on dogs, elephants, etc... and nudity itself is a something one can get used to if familiarised with it soon enough...), nipples are a fully shared organ.

Men have nipples because in the beginning of its life, human fetus always forms the same way for both sexes. Only after the nipples are formed, the gender-specific development phase is activated. We all have the same nipples... the difference is in whether milk glands form behind them or not, but the nipple itself stays the same... All men have nipples, because human is a mammal species, our females must have nipples... men have nipples because women need them (and because human fetus develops the same for both sexes long enough for nipples to form before sex-specific development triggers, human males have nipples at all - e.g. in mice, males don't have nipples because a mouse fetus enters the sex-specific development phase BEFORE nipples are formed, hence mouse males don't have nipples), which means that... all nipples are in fact female nipples, in other words, all men who have nipples have FEMALE nipples, and  - there's NO such thing as a male nipple... not biologically! (if there was, male mice would have nipples despite masculine development triggering before the mouse fetus gets nipples - and they don't, nipple is a FEMALE organ that some mammal males just happen to get because the given species' sex-related development triggers after nipples are already formed).

So, to be biologically correct, since female nipples are banned from display, men are actually banned from showing nipples either - because men actually have female nipples, not "male nipples", because there's no such thign as "male nipples", all nipples are the female nipples!

Also, all the remaining breast tissue is allowed, right? And it's basically the only part of the chest that IS actually different between men and women, right? But it IS ok to show all the breast as long as the nipple alone is covered, right? And both sexes have the same nipples, right? And men ARE allowed to display nipples? Can't people see the nonsence of all that? The nipples, the part thatis exactly the same both for men and women, is banned from display BUT the remaining breast parts, the thing that IS different between men and women(though not always, true) is allowed? That makes no damn sense!

(I'm bad at explaining things though... not only because of the language)

Meh.

Indecent exposure by both sexes is unacceptable in the real world.
Just because it seems okay in fiction doesn't mean it can apply to real life. People would make the "if it's okay in movies then how come not in real life?" excuse which disgusts me to no end. It's fiction, it's not real. It's make-believe. Just because that character is wearing no underwear doesn't mean you should. Just because that character goes around topless 24/7 doesn't mean it's okay to do that irl.
I think that certain things should be kept private. They're not called "private parts" for no reason.

EHXKOR [2017-08-04 19:03:12 +0000 UTC]

I can absolutely understand the reasoning behind the free the nipple campaign. At first, it's going to be seen as very weird to have women walking around with their breasts hanging out, but as time goes on it will be normalized and more of something to be expected. When women first entered the workforce, that was probably seen as absolutely bizarre and extremely abnormal. It probably made a lot of people uncomfortable at first, but over time it just became a normal thing.

TrialCaptainMina In reply to EHXKOR [2017-12-05 16:22:26 +0000 UTC]

See? You get it! This is something I had to figure out for myself- it'll become normal in time. In any rate, there's nothing sexual about breasts except for the taboo surrounding them. If you want to go topless, and it won't cause health problems for you (as in if your breasts are so large that not having support would hurt your back) then be my guest. I have no right to tell you what not to do.

On the other hand, I agree, I don't see how exactly it's going to help up gender equality. In Spain, it'd be better to push for a state pact against domestic violence.

I don't support free the nipple because I don't think it's good to force public nudity on people. It's kind of creepy tbh, especially when people don't consent to seeing it. IMO clearly designated nude areas are the best solution so everyone can avoid or experience public nudity if they want to. Otherwise it seems you're forcing the idea on other people.
